How to make Supports and Tanks satisfying to play?

  • How to make supports cool to play without “no one ever dies” situation happening?

— How to make tanks better to play? Make them "“Beefy DPS”?

  • Would just expaning the roster help enough?

— Maybe we need some supports who heal teammates (number-wise like Lucio & Zen) through dealing damage?

How do we reduce queue time and make supports & tanks fun to play? Ideas?

Don’t nerf them until they become pure trash

Removing Doomfist would help

Hi
Brig heals by doing dmg

Don’t nerf healers for no reason.
Remove one shotting outside of ultimates.
increase rooster
don’t poorly rework supports.
don’t remove supports from the roster and take them to dps.

I don’t think supports are nearly as much of an issue as tanks. Here are comp times at 1415h on EU servers:

queue-times-22032020

I’m at a low rank where most people are playing. Those support times are actually lower than usual, too: I see them go up to “<10 minutes” at most, but usually it’s in the ~6 minutes range. It’s tanks that are the bottleneck.

And hence Brig is fun.

but tbh I find all the supports fun.

yah the tank nerfs didn’t help the que situation

Just imagine Echo as an off-tank that is capable of creating small barriers.
That would be fun.

Playing Tanks is not fun right now, because it is Rein then everyone else.
Throw in “Healers that don’t heal”, you would have to be silly to play tank.

tanks are fine, they are just hard to grasp conceptionally for some people, it’s more so the popularity of tanks that is rock-bottom because people don’t see the charm in them.

out of all the dps heroes i think genji might be the one closest to how tanks play oddly enough.

Yeah, I haven’t played tank in 222 since shortly after Rein’s rise to power.

That doesn’t sound fine at all…?

When I played tanks, it wasn’t to “create space”, it was to offer teammates protection. That’s where the power fantasy lies. I can only speak for myself, of course, but maybe it’d be better for Blizz to stop trying to ram a square peg into a round hole and change tack accordingly.

Just give back incentive to heal and nerf CC chains.

That’s like 50% increase in fun right there.

Fun is seeing my contribution having an effect on the battle, if I can be ignored or disabled long enough that I can’t have any effect I won’t have any fun either. Fix that.

The problem has always been a handful of DPS heroes. Too many of them completely shut down not only other DPS, but many tanks/supports as well, and/or are able to just circumvent everything you do.
All a widow needs is a tiny 0.1 degree angle above your giant shield and poof, someone dies. Why bother at that point? It’s so damn difficult to even do your job.

The problem with tanking, especially after the nerfs are as follows.

  • The game has too much CC – unlike Paladins, this game you’re cc for so long.
  • Roster is small like supports
    • Paladin’s roster is much more balanced out
  • healers are not healing
    • Low roster has cause a lot of the actual support players to quit
    • poor reworks and support removals have cause actual support players to quit
    • A lot of dps players are replacing those quited support players due to high que times.
  • Then we have chars that can one shot you outside of ultimates.
  • Nerfs to tanks – same for suppports

Widow is not the reason Tanks are not fun to play, it is quite the opposite with Shield tanks anyway.

If you are getting picked by widow, either move closer to your shield or find something out of her los, but still with view of your team.

Or go reddit lucio and kill her. :stuck_out_tongue:

well the way tanks have been going is away from stoic protection to tempo based protection so it’s more similar to dive in a way but for all tanks.

it’s all about tempered aggression coordinated.

but with that said the one who suffers the most with an uncoordinated team is the tanks because they rely on their teams aggression and presence to be able to play effeciently.

some tank players do get this and they blame their team for not coordinating enough which is true, but also false, as they might be coordinating with you, but the enemies coordination is just better so it just becomes this point of contention between your tanks and the enemy tanks on who got the best coordination in order to enable you as a tank.

It’s not hard to see. They tell you all the time what makes them unfun. I’m always surprised that threads like this need to be made in the first place.

For tanks:
The idea of “busters” is dumb in a 222 lock system.

Allow tanks to idk…tank without needing shields then maybe they wouldn’t need to huddle around then so often.

Stop introducing things in the game that screws them over as a class. (Dps class buff, armor nerf, cc, characters that specifically screw them over, etc…)

For supports:
Maybe stop nerfing them with no compensation, stop buffing characters that specifically screw them over. Stop yanking every form of impact out of the class.

That’s just off the top of my head. It’s not hard to see why people would rather not play these classes. They tell you all the time why they stop playing them and everyone ignores it or dismisses it till it affects them in queue times. When they leave they’re unlikely to come back.

Issue is, when they are satisfying to play, DPS complain they are overpowered, even if they are not in fact, “OP”.

Add Mauga as damage Tank.
Kinda like Orisa but without shield, with more damage, less mobility.
Such Mauga needs teammates to support him (not literally Supports I mean)
