It’s a genuine question. It’s by far the least played role. We all want a new and fun main tank but I personally don’t even know how to make this role less painful and boring
So, any suggestions?
By doing anything but that.
With every added hero (almost) having a way to ruin a tanks day… enjoying main tanking just isn’t possible.

Other games don’t have tanks that are only walking walls. They are actually playmakers, create space, threatening, and hard to kill but can be chipped down like in DoTA. WB is a great example of how to make tanking fun. Sadly Sombra/Mei screws him easily with the amount of effort you put in.
This too, tanks should have an ability to avoid CC such as Orisa. Instead, it was given to Moira of all things SMH
He might be fun, I like to play him, but unfortunately he is based on CC and this is all that we don’t have to add anymore I’m overwatch.
Reinhardt is fun, only if you have good people.
Introduce a tank with a Gunblade. Worked for FFXIV.

Well, but in FFXIV tank is now basically a dps with agro, wouldn’t work in overwatch.

Played League of Legends once. Super toxic community. Not the game for me. But they had this champion called Shiden. He is a Ninja. Ninja = DPS, right?
WRONG. Dude’s a Tank.
And just like that, playing a Tank suddenly became interesting.
Let’s also look at Final Fantasy XIV; your typical tank classes are sword and board pansies. FFXIV gives you all the bells and whistles to create the most glamorous Paladin experience. Instead of making Warrior a stupid lazy sword and board ripoff, the Warrior wields an enormous axe and just tanks damage with his face. Then they came out with Dark Knight. DRK = automatically cool.
A lot of companies that design multiplayer games do not focus on making tanks cool.
In Overwatch, as a Tank, you can be
- Heavily Armored Shield Unit (Rein)
- An AI Robot designed by a 12 year old that looks like roblox
- A fat masked half naked pigman with a hook tethered to a winch on his belt
- hamtaro in a giant steel hampster ball with guns
- talking jetpack ape with glasses
- a butch lesbian
- 1337 H4X gamer gurl
IMO Reinhardt is the only cool tank.
When you play a Tank you wanna look tough and feel tough, not like you hoard thousands in funko pops and buy gamergirl bathwater.
Solution? Make some cool tanks. Like seriously edgy stuff.
I like the boom sword.

All tanks are fun if you hold down your W key and keep moving forward. I’m not saying yolo in randomly and feed but the bulk of players who find tank boring are way, way too passive.
Your team will back you up once they figure out you’re an aggro tank, who doesn’t just die.
