How to Make 2CP a Solid Game Mode

The devs could definitely have improved 2CP, rather than just remove it like they did. Here are some ideas that could improve the 2CP game mode:

  1. Capture progress is considerably slower, but there are more ticks to save capture progress more often. This would allow your team to regroup and not have to just trickle out onto the point with crazy mobile characters trying to prevent the point from being capped before you can regroup.
  2. If there are more allies than enemies on a point to capture it, the capture would still progress some, but at a slower rate than normal. This would prevent 1 slippery/tanky enemy from completely stopping capture progress while his teammates keep trickling out of spawn to stall.
  3. Add another route to attack 1st point on 2CP maps where the choke is a problem.
  4. Finally, if they make the above changes, then adding a forward spawn for first point defenders is an option; also, they could remove the longer player re-spawn time during Overtime.

Removing it from the game was the best fix ever. The game is 100% more enjoyable to me now since it was removed from Overwatch.

Blizzard was on the right track removing paris and horizon, all they needed to do was then remove hanamura and, bam, like magic, 2CP would have been perfectly fine.

I miss anubis.

i didnt like to play defense on those maps but i miss the aesthetic of those maps and playing attack was fun, hanamura and anubis are iconic maps, anubis its even important to the lore, and i think was one of the first if not the first map developers made, its on all the ow1 trailers, why not bring it back just to quickplay? with one tank and orisa not having shields maybe playing that mode will not be a drag like before

and before any mention it be on arcade its not the same, people dont take arcade seriously

it really is quite sad how they abandoned the mode without even trying to fix the maps

paris/anubis: make first point choke wider and lower the high ground

leaver colony: open up stairs on first point

hanamura: first choke wider, second point generally ok

volskya generally ok

make capturing quicker, make the respawn points in the spawn slightly closer and knock a minute off the timer

Still failed to fix the core problem: Overwatch is not a game built around a round ending in two fights.

If you win fight one and get A you are at a heavy advantage in B for that fight. So you could end up with 2 even teams where one team got 2 scores in 2 minutes and the other took most of the time purely based on the fundamentals of Overwatch not fitting into 2CP.

And it literally did not work. When it was originally built they did fundamentally understand what OW was and how it was going to play. This is not their fault as rarely do you fully understand how your game will play until it is time. However, it was clear very early on that the problem with 2CP is that Overwatch does not work if the round ends in 2 fights. To deny this problem is to pretend ultimates do not have any impact in a fight and that is a ludicrous notion.

The capture progress being slower would allow for more than just 2 fights, so I did fix the problem. :slight_smile:

I just don’t see how overwatch uniquely can’t handle things like capture points, snipers, tanks, supports, and forms of CC, and yet other shooters can.

Honestly 2CP should be in unranked only. The mode is absolutely a torture to play in ranked. I do miss the maps.

You can still go play it in Arcade. They did try to fix the mode and failed at making it fun.

2cp is at its best when it’s not in rotation. Haven’t missed it at all.

2cps biggest flaw is that ult combos are pretty much your only win condition, and snowballing after capturing 1st is really common…

2cp is just too snowbally naturally, or when it isn’t it’s because they poorly designed it so second point defense has such a huge advantage (like horizon and such). I’d much rather play a best of 3 or 3 point capture thing than 2cp. 2cp is also too short.
You capture first point, then the whole game is capturing one point with cheese close spawns.

They are looking to rework the maps into the other game modes

They were also looking to release a fully fledged PVE mode with tons of abilities, look where we are now
