Has anyone else got to a rank and thought that there was no way to improve any more? What did you do? Were you happy/sad? Did you still push through it?
Also, if anyone t500 happens to read this: When you hit GM did you think you would make it to t500 one day?
I think I am the point where it is impossible for me to improve. I am 90% sure there is no way that I can reach to 4600, since even a lot of semi-pro / pro players are having a hard time reaching 4600.
Also, yes and no. I wasn’t sure that I would make it to top500 one day, but my goal was to hit top500 one day, and I tried my best to achieve my goal.
Okay, so when I play at crazy hours of the night, I sometimes can get matched up with 4500+ players or t500, I just feel like it’s beyond where I can get. I see some of the DPS mains, and I’ve never aimed that well, tracked that well, in my life. I gets pretty discouraging sometimes.
Obviously, I don’t just feed, but it’s like, the second I peek anywhere, I’m getting harassed. It just seems like it’s entirely another world up there. I would be sweet to get there, and it’s definitely a goal, but I guess right now, it just feels so distant.
Thanks for the response!
It’s fine. Even I have a hard time playing against 4500 player lul.
The issue with figuring out when you’ve peaked is that, since this is a team based cooperative game with balance such that you are punished for trying to do anything by yourself, it is difficult to examine your gameplay and glean helpful information from it regarding whether or not you have plateaud.
Ask yourself these things: How many different characters am I comfortable playing at my career high? How often is my team weak on dive yet that is not a skill set that I can lead the team in in such a situation? How often is my team weak on competent defending Support yet that I am not familiar enough with the map’s walls/corners to take up those reins? How often does my team have highly skilled Zenyattas and/or Anas, yet I seem to be unsuccessful in suggesting to the team to protect them and then do it?

Very good advice and perspective. Thank you!

I suspect you like Tracer. This is fine. I like her too. She’s my main console no stick extendor and the only thing I am afraid of is a mouse and keyboard Mccree (why is he on console again…?).
I will tell you though she’s difficult to elevate your gameplay with. There’s actually a dirty secret to Overwatch, and it is that Tanks are the class of characters that playing will reveal to you the MOST about the dynamics of the game. If you feel like you’re stuck in plat as a Tracer main, but your Tracer is plenty good for your solo queue bracket, maybe it’s time to pick up some tanks?
Hey,
For some reason, it shows my xbox account before my pc account, but I’m actually a GM Hog Main!
But absolutely good advice haha!
plateauing when you pretty much reach the best you possibly can and cant improve anymore, that purely depends on the person
playing at the 1% skill level of any game usually means you can reach top 1% on any game because of your ability to improve, adapt and are able to develop much better game sense faster than most average people
I’m not even GM. Maybe YOU’RE the one who should be giving ME advice.
When you solo queue in GM, how comfortable would you feel about rolling attack Roadhog on Numbani where your alternative tank is a Rein and one of your supports is Ana?
Actually, it’s not bad, obviously Dive is insane on the first point, so I would prefer something like Hog/Winston and the rest. This lets me be able to look for easy hooks when people (mainly supports) are getting pressured by the dive.
But for the actual question, this is still pretty good. I really like trying to go the route of underneath with the rein and Ana, because rein can give me enough space to look for a hook from underneath, with Ana there, if I hook a squishy, they just die, but I can also look to hook a tank, and Ana can nade me, my rein, and whoever I just hooked. This usually starts off a good 6v5 and we’re already on point.
If they’re holding high ground on their side (above the attackers Cart spawn once you cap), then you can also fight on the corner of point, near the hallway you came from, or you freely push up the stairs, and come around to their high ground and force them off.
Hopefully that wasn’t too hard to follow!
im trash tier master player and im already feeling like ive peaked. for me i feel like whenever ive reached peaks, i have to start knowing the difference between said rank and the rank above it. but feels like to be gm i have to reach a level of consistency which im probably too careless for. still gonna climb for top500 dream tho.
@GanjasKhan
Oh yeah, absolutely. There’s definitely a different way of playing for each rank. Since getting to GM people play so much more carefully and precisely. It seems like team fights go on for so long because instead of trying to outplay (I can’t think of the right way to word this, but outplay isn’t the right word) the enemy, people wait for someone to make a mistake and try to capitalize on it. But this isn’t just like taking picks before a fight, this is during a team fight.
I would definitely want to get to t500 one day, and it’s definitely a dream, but man those guys are nuts dude.
@John (Sorry I couldn’t reply to you…weird…
Yeah, but so right now, I’m at GM (I think some top part of 5% or maybe better idk), and I play with top 500 people every now and then, and it seems like I don’t even know a fraction of what they know. I’ve played on gold/plat smurfs, and it feels the same as when I play with them (this probably sounds bad, but I have no ill-intent).
When I’m at these ranks, people make choices that just make me think, “Why would he ever do that?” or “What made him think that was a good idea.” and then I play in a game with a top500, and feel like I’m the one making mistakes like this. I just feel like I can improve, but it feels like there’s so much to learn.
I’ve bounced around 3500 the past month or so and I think that’s about as high as I can get playing Zen on a computer that only gets 40 FPS. Thought my peak would be somewhere around diamond but either I’m better than I thought or everyone else is worse than I thought. With the way I can own with what I have I truly think I can improve a ton more with a real setup, so I wouldn’t say I’ve peaked quite yet.
Oh absolutely dude. Thats awesome! I play console every blue moon, maybe 3 times a year even, and going back to that and playing at 30 FPS blows my mind. One day, you’ll let a nice setup with 144hz and if you’re playing at ~3500 at 40 fps, once things become way more fluid, you’ll definitely climb and you’ll never want to go back!
Of course you could improve, 40 fps must suck, even 55fps vs 60 messes up my aim and turns any combat situation into a pixelated mess.
Haha trust me, everything about me on Overwatch is a meme. I play on my washing machine and go on dumb flanks half the time, tons of fun
Sorry, I think I read that right, but I just want to make sure other people saw that.
You play…on your…washing machine?
Correct, and my mouse pad is on my dryer.

I think I’m close to peaking for the amount of time that I play.
I know it’s possible for me to get even better, but I’m unwilling to commit more time. I do, in the end, play Overwatch for fun. I’m in a clan so I’m not concerned with ranking up to get better quality teammates. Don’t get me wrong I wish I could improve with the time I currently spend on the game, but I know there are limits without a serious time commitment and I’ve got other games I want to play.
