I don’t have any warnings or anything in my interface but I suspect people can’t read me. Is that a possibility?
Normally there should be a red message in the chat present at all times as long as your chat ban is lasting.
You will have a big red bar saying you’re muted. If no one is responding to you, they either aren’t in VC or have text chat disabled.
Or they don’t care to respond to what he is saying, particularly if it’s bossy or toxic. I 90% of the time ignore anything people say to me, even if good/nice.

Um, who is blaming you? You provided absolutely zero context about WHAT you said that made you BELIEVE others can’t hear/read what you say. I simply pointed out another possibility. I even emphasized how I don’t respond to things people say, EVEN IF IT WAS NICE. It’s 100% possible people hear/see what you say but just DO NOT want to respond. 
That comment wasn’t blaming op. It was using it as an example.
It’s not a shadow mute, it’s blatantly obvious. But it’s easy enough to just type or say something in chat to get a radio check.
I tend to mute the vast majority of people in VC. The ones that immediately chime in and are super annoying “HOW IS EVERYBODY DOING” and mouth breathing into their mics.
