How to improve game sense? Tips?

So the thing is, right now, I’m in the process of carrying myself out of silver. I feel like my aim is pretty decent, 45-51% accuracy on soldier, 46-49% aim on mccree, but the thing is, there has to be some point in the ranks like maybe plat or diamond where I can’t carry myself with just pure mechanical aim. How could I improve my game sense? Thank you for the tips

Play healer.

The sheer gauntlet you have to go through just to keep yourself alive will teach you good positioning and get you into the habit of tracking ults and cooldowns and managing your own very quickly. Maining Ana and Mercy was honestly the best thing that improved mine. Playing Genji I could just run in and jump around like a hyper chipmunk and go ham.

When I played Ana I knew that if I even so much as wasted my grenade when I didnt “need” it either I could die or my tank could and that’d be the game. Same thing with Mercy when it came to Rez and Valkirye.

Playing DPS or even tank you have a lot more leeway in low elos when it comes to that, simply because you have just as high a chance of killing them as they do you. But as a healer? No matter what rank you’re at, you’re always the underdog; if not basically defenseless altogether. So it teaches you how to stay alive.

70% of gamesense is just learning how to stay alive. The other 30% is understanding your hero’s kit and learning how to maximize its value in different situations so you can do your job better.

This. Healer or tank. Playing two hero out of 30 is like playing 5% of the game.
You won’t have a good understanding of 100% if you see only 5%.
Also record your games and watch it. See what you’ve failed with and improve them.
Aim for least death instead of highest accuracy/most damage/heal.
Play with things that you find hard to play against to see/feel their weaknesses.
Good luck.

Also accuracy doesn’t show anything because You shoot randomly many times(if no then you should…) and on tanks.
What matters is headshots. Killing blows. Deaths/KD ratio.

Short tip
Play a lot
Dont auto pilot
Think what you have to do
Think what teammates want to do
Think what your enemies want to do

He goes really in depth focussing on gamesense and tactics.

Yes play healer, there is no other class here that requires alot of game sense than them second is tanks.

Unpopular opinion
Playing symmetra will actually help you improve your game sense allot, the way her current state is made this way. If you dont have a good game sense you should not play her or youll just end up dead everytime.shell even teach you superb map awareness, we symmetra mains know every nook and crannies of every map.

Everytime you die, watch the killcam. You’ll see where you opponent was placed, what path he took, so you can remember to be careful for those in the future.

Sombra is a good hero to play to get a really intimate feel for the layout of maps. More than any other hero she will drill into you the importance and placement of health packs - which will help you remember to use them frequently on other heroes, making you less dependent on constant support (that should be going to your tanks).

She’s also quite good for drilling in the ability to keep track of your cooldowns and timers in the back of your head, as her hit and fade cadence is totally defined by her cooldown cycles.

A way to improve game sense is to pick heroes that actually need to think about positioning in order to help their team win IE tanks and healers. Any DPS can sit in a few spots or behind a Rein and do well. Play AS the Rein and figure out where to stand, how to stand, what avenues of approach do you need to pay attention to.

Also pay attention to your healers. Are they ok? Are they alive? Are they able to heal or are they having to try and solo that Tracer/Reaper/Sombra in the backline?

Listen for enemy voice lines and learn what they mean. Hear that Tracer giggle and don’t have Tracer? Means she is rushing around to get at your heals. Did Reaper just reposition? He is most likely on the high ground getting ready to ruin your day. Did someone just speak Spanish? Sombra is trying to hack your Rein.

A lot of game sense revolves around simply listening to what is going on around you. Go into quick play and focus on just listening to what is happening for a few moments, see how many things you can pick out.

MEMORY, and the common sense that if you are in silver you have much to learn. simply playing the game should allow you to learn. of course as long as you have improving as a priority

no matter what happens ask yourself the 5 Ws, you probably learned this in elementary school but never understood truely why you should do it.

You want to get into the habit of watching what the enemy team comp is, then finding the most effective way of making that comp collapse. Pick off the right people in the right order at the right time, always have the advantage when it comes to positioning and always expect the unexpected when it comes to flanks and dives.

There’s no substitute for learning game sense than playing the game a lot. As others have said, playing a bit of each role helps just so you can see what life is like for other players. So for instance, if you’re a 76 player, try playing some main tank so you can understand how you as a 76 player can help enable your main tank (this will especially help you understand when to flank and when not to flank and how you might be baiting your team at times).

Playing Support will help similarly as it’s the best role for picking up Ult tracking, the single most important game sense skill you can learn in Overwatch. Essentially, the best players have the same things down that you actively think about during a match to a point they just passively know to do them so they can keep track of things like Ultimates.

That said, if you want some instructional videos that actually cover game sense and not the same inane, general useless stuff most do, check out Jayne’s videos. They’re much longer than a lot of other channels, but they’re quite good at covering more complex topics.

The reason you stuck in a rank has less got to do with your aim and more on how you play the game and the desisions you make you see people in gold who play widowmaker and they aim is easily dimond master level. But there gamesence is crap and thats why there stuck they put there selfs in positions that gets them picked of easily or they target priority isnt good enough

I imagine they climbed or quit by now…
