How to improve aim on Tracer?

I need help, that’s all. I can’t aim when people are too close, mainly- so it’s a struggle

Don’t look straight at the crosshair, focus your eyes at what you trynna kill instead. Also work on your tracking.

Okay, I’ll try the first one. I’m obviously trying to improve tracking  I’m better at flicking

Flicking won’t help you out as Tracer, since she uses pistols. If you’re looking for flicks try McCree or Widow.

Yeah, I know that. I was just stating that I’m better at flicking

Also, try to quickly blink behind an enemy you 1v1 then instantly blink backwards. It throws off enemies completely, and also won’t mess up your aim.

And practice 180s so you can just blink behind once to disorient them

Do this in a custom game. You have to put yourself in team two or you try emulate this settings to team one and for bots on team two. Try to force yourself to track the bots at melee range for a long time.

This helps too. :3 These two are what I do to practice my Tracer. :3

Good luck with your Tracer! :+1:

The bot practice definitely helps. Those settings are very similar to the ones I used. Healer bots will sort of kite you where as like a Reaper or McCree for instance will kind of just keep running up to you. Be sure to practice in ways that are comparable to in game situations, so like ADAD crouch spamming, jumping, etc, as if you’re trying to avoid being shot, practice at diff ranges etc.

Follow up practicing like that with some QP and such as the pressures, movements, etc, especially when it comes to CQC aiming, makes it very different.

Get some play time on Soldier 76, it will improve your tracking. This is because Soldier 76 has sustained fire that requires him to stay on targets longer to maximize his damage, while Tracer doesn’t require much tracking as her ammo count is so low. Playing Soldier 76 more has improved my aim on both Sombra and Tracer.

Also, I would advice against custom game practice, as the bots moves are predictable and sets your aim up to therefor track slow moving targets. In a real game players jump and move sporadically, and a custom game can’t prepare you for that.

Turn off your crosshair and take to Deathmatch, focus more on keeping the enemy center screen than where you think your crosshair would be. I play with a 40 Opacity size 2 purple dot so I can minimize the distraction that is my crosshair.

You don’t even need crosshair on Tracer. You can use the chevrons that show blink charges to find center of the screen.

Tracer is really tricky to use. Don’t despair, OP. Aiming as Tracer is hard, keep practicing.

Well since nobody has mentioned this I don’t believe

PLAY A LOT

a majority of top 500 top tier dps streamers like calvin, wanted, dafran, etc all have thousands of hours from previous fps games

The crosshair trick seems weird to me, I had a completely reverted experience.
I was usually focusing on where my gun is shooting and where my target is but get better results when I focus on my crosshairs (and change it up from time to time to not get used to it) and try to align it with my target instead.

Lower your mouse sens.

I really appreciate the tips, guys!

Hmmm, that’s weird. I usually do this so I can force myself to focus on my target rather than on my crossahair. It makes me not worry about my aim that much which it is working for me. It does make me pinpoint little details that is happening around my screen better also.

No quick easy way, just practice. Maybe play some sombra. Her gun takes super good aim to get use out of, and after maining her for a while now, aiming with Tracer is like a cakewalk.

If you have a few bucks to spare I recommend Aim Hero on steam. Its simple and helps your tracking and/or flicking. I generally stick to either Time Trials, Strafing or the simple modes as I found those the most helpful, but whatever works for you.
