How to fix Overwatch 2

EDIT: Yea, with PVE being cancelled this thread is more relevant than ever, perhaps more so than Overwatchs entire lifespan.

I don’t think it needs to be said: this game is bleeding players at an alarming rate. I’ve seen this exact scenario play out with Destiny 2 where they first launched and almost died , but managed to pull back up because they did major changes.

Nows the time to fix the game and pull up the boot straps.

First change: Give more Overwatch currency as rewards for challenges.

Its insulting that we get, what? 60 currency at most a week? Someone did the math and it will take like 132 years or something (I don’t know the exact amount, but its certainly more than our lifetime) to collect everything if you don’t spend money.

Second change: Make the battle pass give at LEAST 1000 currency to buy the NEXT one.

This allows f2p players to buy the next pass. And, for those who pay for the pass, it just means they can use that currency to buy stuff they want. It gives options and overall positive reception.

EDIT AS OF SEASON 3: It seems that we’re getting legacy credits back in the pass to be able to get older skins, and their prices decreased. Yay-ish. Still need to buy the pass and you can’t earn OW currency unless you buy it.

Third change: Return lootboxes, but ONLY obtainable upon reaching 20k exp (Just like the old system).

Again, returns the lootbox system and allows us to grind for something. New skins put in the shop wont be put in it for a year, just like before. Best of both worlds; you can buy the skin you want or play to potentially get it. If you don’t? You can buy it as last resort.

Fourth change: Remove new heroes being LOCKED behind a battle pass.

This is such a huge hiccup. A core part of the game should not be delegated behind what is essentially 1-3 weeks of grinding just to be able to play them. They should be free for every player to use. Put something else in the pass that players will go nuts for - like, weapon skins? Idk.

Fifth change: Remove the 7 wins/ 20 losses to see your rank in competitive.

Its a frustrating system having to grind 7 wins just to see your rank go down or up when its hiding the old system. I get the good intentions behind it, but its so flimsy and I’d rather see my current rank than hiding it.

EDIT AS OF SEASON 3: They will be reducing this number down to 5 wins. I still think they should do away with the whole system.

Sixth change: Remove map pools.

FIXED! :tada:

Look. No one likes deja-vu. I certainly don’t, and map pools prey on that so hard. I hate seeing the same maps over and over again. Why limit the randomness of your game? Playing the same thing over and over again has proven many times that it gets stale. Look at any meta in the past. People leave when every game is x hero. This applies to maps as well.

This is one of those symptoms of the game being stale.

EDIT AS OF SEASON 3: They will be removing map pools in season 4! They said they plan to look at them again two years later, but I really feel as if they shouldn’t be a thing period.

Seventh change: Bring back QOL to the game.

General chat, player cards, on fire meter (The voicelines are in game for crying out loud…), LFG system, etc. The game feels so hollow.

Eighth change: Fix the forced win/lose game match making.

Its not fun being stomped or doing the stamping to level out a forced win rate between the two teams. This system was heavily criticized in Halo Infinite and I’m surprised a system like this is in Overwatch. It needs to be removed.

If anyone has any suggestions, please drop them down below. I’ll add them if its popular or agreed upon by many.

unbalanced matchmaking is the biggest issue right now i think.

They need to un-ruin alot of heroes for certain people to come back. This game is dire for me since they ruined Mei.

I don’t want the game to die because its a genuinely fun game. Theres just so many little problems that pile into a big problem.

So having played and grinded out both battle passes to 80 and above i noitced a ton of empty levels in-between 81 - 200 Thats a ton of levels that have 0 rewards. And doesnt really feel good to just see it ping passed. Readding the OW Currency back would be great in that spot. Gain maybe 25-50 credits every empty level.

I agree with like everything, but maybe for 5 make it player choice?

As far as I’m aware the mechanisms all still work like they did in OW1, it just won’t show you things until you hit the required Ws/Ls so basically you would be just reintroducing the old every match real time update screens from OW1.

I really see 0 reason to not let people choose their preferred update regularity.

That would be fantastic in all honesty

According to whom?

The game has been fluctuating within Xbox’s top 10 played games out of 50 total since launch, and that’s up from its mid tier position on the same chart denoting that even in OW1’s state it was still successful at the end of its run.

Most signs point to the game doing very well, not hemorrhaging. At this point in Halo Infinite’s lifespan (3 months in) the game was actually in active freefall, Overwatch 2 has stabilized if anything.

I am sorry OP but everything you are listing seem to be aimed at skin acquisition and overall progression. In my humble opinion we have way more issues than that…

Because that kind of worry about progression, currency, skins… that comes secondary with the game. If the game design isnt good, there is no point hunting these skins and currencies.

It might not look like it but this is a game, it needs to be a good game and an addicting one, one that makes you every time you finish a match you go “hmm just one more!”

And right now it has so many balance, design, matchmaking and content issues… they can set all skins for 1 dollar for all that I care. It still isnt enough. This IP has fallen from grace, it needs energy and proper developer workforce to put it back on its feet.

Skins acquisition and currency/xp are very secondary to the game’s issues right now. So I respectfully disagree with you, the skins can be 1 dollar, 100 dollars or free. It doesnt change the fact that the problems with the game are being treated at an alarming lethargic take.

It won’t die. People still play Runescape, after all.

It’ll just be irrelevant, like it has always been.

Pretty much this. Overwatch is wasted potential.

It seems it’s on that path. So many games now there isn’t a backfill for ages.

I think this is what everyone on the forums are trying to say.

This was SO EASY to make this the best game out there and they just shat over it’s reputation.

Bing. Look it up in the reddit forum. Interesting topic floating around.

You pretty much covered it all. Sadly I don’t think most of these are coming.

It would be nice to be able to buy tickets to the world where they’d make those changes, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. They are not going to listen because all of those issues bring in the money for Blizz.

Is it too early to say “I told you so” when I said that the game is P2W now?

Sadly the people that run this company are the ones that run other ones to the ground when it comes to money first. I’ve read this somewhere, there was a guy that worked with the executives of Discovery and during the biggest pitch meeting to tell everyone what content is being shown next year was all reality tv trash instead of educational programs and everyone in the room cheered.

Soulless people run these companies now and won’t make a change unless it means more potential to make money or to bring in more players to fail for their casino tricks and pay money. Nothing else matters to them, they’ll let the devs do minimal tinkering but it has to be runned by the executives first.

devs destroyed their own game by dropping a tank to compensate for disinterest in shooting shields, which is a result of nerfing characters into oblivion. when you nerf characters into oblivion, then of course no one will care to shoot shields. simple math. so essentially its 5v5 instead of 6v6, because everyone’s damage was impulsively nerfed into oblivion, which directly created disinterest in shooting shields to begin with. when all they had to do was not nerf every role’s damage output, then shooting shields wouldn’t be an issue. simple math.
