How to fix drives

  1. lower points gained on win, remove points lost on loss

This just adds way too much variance into how long the drive takes to complete which is frustrating especially for such a short event. You can have 2 people both get a 50% winrate yet have on take drastically longer to finish the drive than the other. Then there is also the issue that this encourages deranking since having even a 60% winrate instead of a 50% one will save you over 3 hours.

I think reasonable rates would be the first 500 comp points are a participation trophy, the next 1000 you will get if you play an hour or two a day, the final 1500 are doable but not easy, and the final nameplate is a flex item for the hardcore nolife players

  1. Make drive points a fixed amount per win

Having the drive points tied to comp percentage again encourages deranking since an underranked player gains more percent per win

  1. Let quickplay participate at a reduced rate

Yeah, I think it just feels kinda crummy to have an event tied to a mode that less than half the playerbase even plays when there is no good reason for it. People play the gamemode they want to and you shouldn’t try to bribe them to do otherwise. This would also be a good opportunity to finally allow quickplay players to earn gold guns.

If a comp match gives 100 points per winning, then I say a qp match should give 50, but as a bonus qp players gain 25 per loss as well. This would still encourage players to try comp since it’s more points and giving points on a loss would stop qp from becoming too sweaty during the drive. Maybe include arcade too, but the issue is some of the modes are very shor there so farming may be too easy

  1. Make placement matches earn drive points

Yeah, this one I think must’ve been an oversight but obviously get rid of this even if you don’t do anything else on this list. Anyone who thought of trying comp just for the drive gave up the second they realized this, and in future seasons cosmetic farmers will treat placements as the designated derank matches

  1. Make signatures not drive exclusive

It’s a somewhat cool cosmetic, you should be using it to make the battlepass and shop bundles a better value. Still keep signatures as a reward for drives, but don’t make those the only signatures in existence. Also while we’re at it there is no reason for weapon variants to only be tied to comp either

This is the only one I agree with.

I’m pretty sure Drives are intended to address a very specific issue. That is, people who probably should be playing Competitive, aren’t. And of those that do, many don’t play it enough to reach their correct rank - people are severely under-ranked.

Drives are pretty clearly intended to resolve this issue by:

  • Forcing as many players as possible to play Ranked at once to calibrate ranks more quickly
  • Encouraging and rewarding people for finishing the calibration process and reaching their correct rank

Extending the rewards to cover Placement matches would work. But I think the rest of these suggestions would run counter to the aim of Drives.

i dislike them tricking non comp players into comp.

People should play comp to win not to farm cosmetics.

Will just be grinding cosmetics myself as theres no mode to play to win.

if someone complains I just tell them its not comp its special cosmetics farm mode.

will also be encouraged to derank as thats a faster way to get the new cosmetics.
should be just in the shop. missing revenue. board will not be happy.

If I would get access to a bronze account I could also speedrun grabbing the new cosmetics.
Won’t ruin any games as its just for cosmetics.

iirc the drives or “new name plate cosmetics” only exist at the end of seasons? So throwing down during the season and climbing at the end seems to be the go to strat.

(not throwing don’t worry, just trying as hard as always :stuck_out_tongue:, especially when playing a new hero. thats not goof against that comp or even on paper) So nothing wrong.
