For the next experimental card:
Only allow one shield tank per team. If rein is selected Orissa and sigma are not playable. If Orissa is selected no sigma or rein. Finally if sigma is selected the second tank will not be able to pick Orissa or rein.
Ie. Each team is allowed One “shield tank” per team

Can’t wait wave of trolling when someone gets mad about not able to select Sigma, bcoz someone took Rein, picking Hamond and roll on feed fest !
e: Idea is good but you have to explain it to people with an IQ less than the shoe number…
Blizzard already tested out Hero Pool, did it fix something ?

In over 4000 games of competitive I can say I’ve seen someone get mad about other tank stealing rein/sigma less than 15 times.
Yes it’s just my personal experience but my observations of the data data leads me to believe your claim might be overblown.
Yeah i don’t say your idea is bad, but i don’t belive they will do it, shame isn’t ?
e: Personally i would love to play Main Tank / Off Tank games and meta where Rein/Zarya will be a thing.
Yes I miss rein zaraya and Orissa hog a lot too.
It’s okay if they don’t make a change. The real shame would be if I didn’t make a post at all because of pessimism.
Just because the dev team won’t listen doesn’t mean we should stop being a community and discussing solutions together.
I didn’t realize double shield was still a thing…
You ever get in an argument and then realize the perfect thing to say after it’s over?
YES! More crutches in the form of limitations is exactly what this game needs! Now we also need to make it so you can only pick 1 dive tank, only 1 flanker and only 1 sniper. Oh, and only 1 main healer. That’ll solve all the problems.

That’s my honest response to your question…

nah you’re right we should just leave a stale meta that people will inevitably start playing again. It’s super healthy for the game and player base to have double shield as an option.

It’s not the tanks’ fault they have so much fun playing double shield despite there being so many other viable options, I mean look at those 15 minute tank queues, everyone’s just dying to play the role.

Consider this :
Blizzard introduces new tanks with shields.
Double shield meta ensues.
Playerbase pays price because Blizzard refuses to make distinction between main and off tank.
All of this can be avoided and future tanks can be developed along this premise if blizzard just draws the line in the sand now.
They can save the playerbase and balance team a lot of headaches in the future if they just make the distinction now.
Or they could just:
- Add more tanks
- Make all tanks viable, shield or not
- Introduce more heroes that counter shields
This game is on life support because of all its limitations. It doesn’t need more of them, it needs more options.

I disagree I believe bad metas hurt the game more than limitations.
I will use goats and double shield as my evidence.
To avoid goats the key was RQ.
To avoid double barrier the key is Hero limits.
They can’t create hero’s which make all the other hero’s viable.
They can introduce a rule to a competitive game mode that will:
-
Allows for the development of new tanks that enable less played tanks without risk of them being paired with a more popular tank creating an OP meta.
-
Allows for proper balance of tanks without unintended consequences. Ie. They could give Orissa her shield back.
-
Creates a distinction making the game easier to understand and more enjoyable to new players and viewers.
Adding a rule to a game can in-fact result in something positive contrary to your belief.
Arguing limitations like rolequeue have killed the game are speculative at best. In my opinion my game experience is waaaay better with rq and I’m happy they added it.
Want a suggestion from outside of the box? This will sound crazy at first but give it some honest thought…
Create two way shields that block both incoming AND outgoing damage.
I get it, the game designers have adopted the fictional standard sci-fi fantasy where it’s actually possible for one team to possess the keys to a shield that allow their bullets to penetrate it but not the opposing team who is key-less. I don’t think we need to discuss this very much in order to agree that this premise is illogical and arguably utterly ridiculous. The more important question is; given the current state of of the game is this good for gameplay?
Removing the ability to shoot through friendly shields would completely change the gameplay. Some might argue for the better. What if the dps actually were forced to forego their own safety in order to go on the offensive? A change like this could open the door for other interesting changes, how about opaque shields? How about indestructible shields? Does a shield still need HP if you can’t attack through it? How about a shield you can’t walk through? We already have player collision, why not force enemies and friendlies to walk around shields?

This idea needs to be in experimental ASAP if not for science then for the memes.
Big April fools potential too.
Ive suggested this many times in the past, which resulted in ridicule lol. That’s what they should do. Make all the barriers 2K damage, adjust the regen for them accordingly… OR make it so a barrier is available to non-barrier tanks, and adjust accordingly globally.
Great idea but before that idea is viable more shield tank heros need to be released first. You cant implement something like that with as small of a selection tank role has at the moment. That would be a recipe for disaster

I agree with this criticism. My worry is how much blood must be shed before there are enough tanks to lessen the “impact”.
Perhaps the upfront cost of implementing this solution with a small tank pool could genuinely out weigh the pain to balance team and players in meantime.
This is the type of direction they should be looking in if they want to support the game and give meaning to balance teams efforts.
