How to effectively ult as Baptiste?

So, love the character, really fun to play(Even if you can be bit of deadmeat when the enemy has good snipers due to the lack of mobility aside from jump) but man, I really can’t make his ult work properly.

For starters it’s painfully difficult to position it in a way that is going to be useful throughout a team fight, if you’re winning the enemy team tries to run and LoS, if you are losing the enemy team charges at you and you lose your positioning, either situation allows your team to at most deal very little DPS before the ult becomes useless.

Second is that most of the times your teammates just kinda of ignore it because of the situation mentioned first, played like 13 matches in a row and I think I only got one good ult where the Soldier ulted and killed 3 with the damage boost… But Nano-boost would have done the same thing while making him more resistant to damage and letting him run around the place.

So I guess any tips to get more value from it aside from just tossing at my feet and using it more selfishly?

now imagine that for the cute spray achievement you need to do 2000 amplified damage or heal in one life… yeah, it’s completely ridiculous…

Not exactly a T500 tactic, but if the team has a Torb (or arguably even an Ashe with her ult ready) I like to throw it down next to the Turret/B.O.B :stuck_out_tongue:

Double damage on undodgeable autoaim is nothing to sneeze at.

Oh yeah, I did that once when I had an Ashe on our team, unfortunately Bobby slept through most of it lmao, didn’t quite work out afterwards, they moved to the opposite side of the barrier so Bobby was just doing normal damage after Sleep wore off.

I think its heavily based on team comp. It you have tanks/dps that excel on shooting at mid/long range it works wonderfully. Wont be much efectiva with Mei and Genji as dps, for instance

Either us it to secure a fast kill or two for yourself, to boost your own healing for your team in a clutch moment or place it in a choke point when that the enemy needs to pass to put a lot preasure on them.

Baptiste is not about his Ult, his self sustaining, good damage and healing and the lamp.

depends on if your team likes to coordinate ult or not. In qp, and even in my gold game, I primarily use it selfishly to boost my healing or to frag out and kill the enemy tems, it really depends on the situation.

This is gonna sound random, but part of me thinks they should swap amp matrix out for Orisa’s old supercharger.

The only thing I can think of that’s viable is playing open queue and hoping they have more than one tank and let bastion have a field day

I’m a scrub on this man like I assume his ult messes with projectile speed and dmg if not providing some type of penetration? Again I’m not sure I don’t really play him and if anyone wants to help a random out please don’t be afraid to explain his ult to me.

lmao I’ve been trying to get his Cute spray since he came out and I have still not figured out the trick. Even when I get a pretty good (for me) Matrix off it’s only like 400 damage and a bit of healing.

+100% dmg/heals to projectiles that pass through.

Except some abilities (Eg. Hook) and Moira’s orb will heal faster but not contain more juice.

I’m kinda selfish with it sometimes. it charges fairly quickly so I just use it whenever I have it mainly to boost my healing output, occasionally to shoot pharmercy out of the sky.

I’m not that good so take this with a pinch of salt but: I think of IMAX as being a bit like the Pulse Bomb of the support lineup. There are times when I’ll pull off a nasty IMAX that boosts a Rein’s Firestrikes to take chunks out of the enemy team, or combine it with a setup ult like Shatter or Grav. And there are the times when their Hanzo chucks a couple of dragons at my IMAX and it goes largely to waste.

I think the important thing to do is not hold onto it for too long. Even if nothing shows up in the killfeed, there’s still value in plonking down ult and thwarting a push, or denying an area, or forcing the enemy to pay attention to an area, or tease out other ults and cooldowns, or using it for the sole reason of boosting your own heals to keep the tank alive in a pinch. If you spend all your time waiting for The Perfect Amplification Matrix™, you won’t be doing any of that. Don’t overthink it and don’t feel bad for not setting up a PotG.

Oh, and you probably know this, but you can rotate the ult by tapping Q again. It’s useful for deploying IMAX while you yourself are around a corner.

I mean technically best use is to “zone out” enemies when pushing, since they will expect you to be on LOS and pump them so they will run away.
Couple this with a Zarya for example and BoB, S76, Pharah or Cass, some high damage input and that team wipe will most likely yield you 1,2k damage.

You can also use it if you are healing your team inside a grav, Window + IF and then blast heals like theres no tomorrow. The tough part comes from not dying in the middle of 2-3 usages of Window.

They should make baps ult a ability alongside ult. He should have two ult one is window with longer cd and with bigger window and lamp.

hitscan too, just to clear that up for possible newbies

Put it next to a corner and throw the lamp behind the cover and get a couple of quick kills if you can. Either way you will zone out a large area for the duration of of the lamp. Not every ult needs to be potg worthy and there is nothing wrong with using it yourself, if the dps isn’t standing next to you its because they got a better angle somewhere else and that’s all good. You can also just throw it in the middle of brawl and let people dance around it the same way they would a sym ult.

They should make the lamp his ult and then replace the lamp with a 50% dmg boost wall.

Atleast that will make people not run away from lamp like they do now.
