How are you supposed to deal with Torbjörn as DPS? I mean deal relatively easily with him, and not have to kill yourself to take out both the gnome and the turret.
I know Widowmaker can easily destroy the turret when it isn’t protected by a shield and Genji can deflect some of the turret’s damage back at it, but what do you do when the turret is placed on difficult spots or protected by some bunkerish composition?
You know, it is easy to say “your tanks are supposed to deal with it”. But what if my tanks aren’t prioritizing the turret and making the match a hell on earth to all squishies?
I’ve always disliked Torbjörn in the sense I see him as a character that can be too easily exploited in lower ranks, like Moira and Pharah. He will go 100% uncontested.
Somebody told me Mei is the best answer to the situation. Yeah, it’s OK to me because Mei is one of my Top 3 DPS; but what about the DPS who don’t play Mei? Are they supposed to just keep dying and dying?
You know, it doesn’t feel very nice. It is the same way Pharah forces a hitscan to deal with her. Torbjörn forces a tank like D.va to deal with him if you want small chances of dying. And unlike Symmetra’s turrets, the range of Torbjörn’s turret feels absurd.
I really don’t mean to sound dismissive but… shoot the turret? It’s completely stationary.
I also wouldn’t consider it the tank’s responsibility to kill the turret. They should be creating space and cover so you (the DPS) can kill it. His turret is reasonably strong if it’s literally left uncontested, but its low HP and complete immobility make it an easily-addressed threat.

The only character that really struggles against Torb+turret 1v1 is Genji. Every other DPS should be fine dealing with them.

you walk with your team. Personally, i find mccree the easiest counter. Don’t flank unless there’s a path for you to avoid the turret or destroy it fast.
That’s pretty much it. It’s BY FAR easier to counter him than symmetra.
As I said, not in some circumstances. Sometimes there is a shield protecting it; sometimes it is placed in completely WTF spots.
If the enemy team is investing heavily into a Torb turret, they’re probably playing a pretty stationary bunker-y composition. If I was in that situation, I’d just shield break as much as possible and kill the turret. But I’m a Zen main so I’m used to spending my downtime shield-spamming.
As for those wtf spots, I dunno. There are some clever-ish spots, but generally there’s a cost/benefit balance when it comes to turret placement. If you maximize the turret’s line of sight, that means the enemy also has a lot of places they can attack the turret from. If you put it in too much cover, it won’t attack anything. The best spots are a balance between those. What’s a spot you’re thinking of, for example?

Not really. Tracer is even more countered by the turret than Genji, and I believe many characters who need to interact at close range but have low HP are countered by it as well.
If you are a squishy DPS and can’t flank it for some reason, or peek it with sufficient burst damage, you may need to back up and let it lock onto a tank before you peek out. The turret will mindlessly fire at the first thing it sees, for as long as it can see that thing.
Generally speaking, if the Torb is playing smart and placing it in positions that cover the team, rather than actively contribute on the frontline, the only option that I would consider reasonable would be to move together. However, if you’re the solo adventurous type, you’re gonna have to poke it down from a flank and rely on healthpacks, or quickly dive it, burst it down and regroup with the team.
There’s a lot of other ways to deal with it specifically, but I purposely avoided suggesting specific heroes who might not be viable or actively countered by something the enemy has.
I don’t play much Tracer these days, but I don’t remember ever having a problem dealing with that as her. I struggle with Genji because his base DPS output is so low that Torbjorn can just keep hammering at the turret while it shoots me. I find it difficult to out-damage that.
Pharah usually can work really nice against Torb, since you can take some extreme angles to take him and his turret down. Of course, if he’s not getting peeled. But then again, it’s a team game, it’s all about team effort.
Torbjorn has a huge critbox and an arcing projectile, so if you shoot at him with anything from range, he’s going to struggle to deal with you.
Pharah is a great option for dealing with the turret as long as she plays outside of its range or peeks carefully around vertical cover. So are snipers.
If Torb and his turret are bunkered up, then it becomes harder to directly deal with them, but EMP severely hampers his survivability by disabling his E, and totally puts his turret to sleep.

Deflect the turret fire into his dome then dash into him.
Chain Sombra headshots into him
That won’t help if he activates maximum overdrive or whatever that stupid Super Saiyan move is called.
With me it has always been the opposite. I don’t have that much trouble dealing with the turret as Genji; if it isn’t shielded (it often is), just deflecting its damage back at it and using left click seems to do the job. With Tracer just by existing the turret limits my flanking and mobility completely, and make me waste recalls I shouldn’t.
That’s true. That move made him a lot harder to deal with.
