How to counter reinhardt as tank?

So If I don’t que all roles for my weekly and daily challenges, I que damage and tank.

I am having issues against reins, especially aggressive reins when I play tank.

open for advice.

Aside from being unable to counter shatter I play JQ just fine into him tbh

It’s 2022 and players are still not shooting shields. That still a problem, honestly.
If you are focusing the barrier down, he has to retreat. (That needs a half competent team of course)

Anyways, current Hog is still good, also a mirror matchup.

D.Va. Her shotguns destroy his shields and him easily and he gets no bonus from D.Va having huge critbox as he is melee. As a bonus you can eat his E skill projectiles.

Destroy his shield from medium distance, then proceed to delete him or supports.

I’d say D.Va, Orisa, another Rein to counter pin

Shoot the shield until it breaks.

Orisa’s probably your best choice vs Rein.

If you’re dps, try and shoot around Rein to potentially pick off supports/dps, but the most important thing is don’t do nothing. If you can’t find a pick, shoot his shield. Make it a pain for him to push, and even if he does, his shield will be low. As a support, predict his charge and ult pretty much. His firestrike is pretty easy to dodge, just be mindful to always keep the distance between you and him. Tank is trickier because it depends on the map and what the enemy team is running. General rule, if they have good support healers that can peel for each other, you don’t want to be diving them. Be careful of reaper and bastion. Play around your cooldown and make sure you kill them first.

Hog, Dumbfist, Dva, Orisa, Zarya

Orisa does a good job at bullying a Rein in a straight up fight, and can keep pushing him away. That style of play is heavily reliant on your team doing stuff while you focus on negating Rein.

Hog does well against Rein right now with tremendous shield pressure. If you have some high dps heroes like Bastion/Hanzo/Soldier/Junkrat/etc. his shield will evaporate and make it very difficult for him to close distance. A single hook with a few of those DPS will also result in Rein just exploding if he doesn’t get Suzued.

Other tanks like Doom, D.Va and Winston are good at avoiding him or playing from high ground with more spread out compositions.

Which strategy to play into him will depend on the map. Dive tanks will be hard to play on something like Lijiang Control Center, but can work really well on maps with lots of high ground like New Queen Street.

Orisa is the best choice imo. D.Va is good too.

Ram is pretty good now, u can poke with distance in mage form and u can kite him in nemesis with the wxtra speed and pierce his sheild

Rein. Hammer. Big. Good. Beer!

You gotta get someone to take out the supports or at least malfunction them because Rein is tough when he is backed but huge bullet sponge without them. And yes IMO break his shield ASAP is may also be the key.

Break the shield. You get owned simply because your DPS aren’t shooting it. Or the supports are being screwed. Than can’t help the DPS. I get so fed up in games. Where I have to switch to Zen or Bap. So I can start making the Rein stop playing aggressively. While my moronic DPS are snipers.

Ranged burst and mobility.

He’s melee, so anything that can ignore and avoid him, or bust his barrier down without needing to close the distance is a great answer to him.

But, in terms of Tanks, pretty much all of them bar Sigma and maybe Roadhog are good checks. Sigma struggles to contest Rein, as Rein can really easily take back any space Sigma creates, and Roadhog’s Hook can really easily be baited and blocked, but it depends on how good the Rein is at predicting when a Hog is looking for a hook, and how good the Hog is at baiting Rein’s Fire Strikes and barrier.

D.Va can eat his Fire Strikes, isn’t worried about crits, and can easily dive in and out of his attack range. Her primary and micro missiles also do a really good job at burning his barrier.

Junker Queen, despite having to fight much closer to Reinhardt, can pull him out of position with Gracie, and Carnage ignores his barrier completely, due to it being a melee hit, giving her free sustain when boxing.

Doomfist bullies the crap outta him. You can dive in and out without risking your own safety, Rein’s Fire Strikes will fully charge your gauntlett, if both connect on you, Rocket Punch can easily knock Rein out of position and interrupt Earth Shatter, and Meteor Strike can really easily take a huge chunk off a Reinhardt who’s hyper focused on his barrier.

Orisa can knock him out of his pin and charge with Energy Javelin, Fortify and Terra Surge can prevent his charge and make her completely immune to Earth Shatter, Terra Surge now having the added benefit of ignoring his barrier as well, Javelin Spin destroys his Fire Strikes and blocks his melee, and her primary fire can easily pressure his barrier down.

Mirror matches as Reinhardt all depends on who wins the mind games. If the enemy Reinhardt is playing more aggressive, its likely he’s trying to look for a shatter. Make sure you watch him closely, but allow him his window to go for his ult, so you can block it and counter with your own. Shatter, as the enemy Reinhardt will now be briefly stuck in the animation.

Ramattra has incredible poke against a Reinhardt, able to sap his barrier and ignores Rein’s armour, thanks to the Void Accelerator being a projectile based weapon. Pummel completely ignores barriers, allowing you to damage Reinhardt and his team directly whilst you’re in his Nemesis Stance, and the new movement speed buff allows you to more easily push past Rein’s barrier with Annihilation.

Hammond and Winston kinda fall under the same bracket, having good damage to pressure Reinhardt, and also being incredibly mobile, so they’re both easily able to avoid incoming damage. Winston has the added bonus of being able to block Shatter by trapping Reinhardt in his bubble; Hammond has the ability to completely isolate a Rein with Minefield, or his supports, making his life miserable either way.

Pretty much every tank have no issues against a Rein, just some better than others.

Hog, Orisa, Winston, D.va, Doom, all have better matchups in general than the others i think.

Orisa

I keep up suppressive fire against him, move from position to position to keep distance until he’s low on shield or used up his ability resources. Then make an aggressive push. It also depends on what the team mates are doing or what the objective of the map is (defense or offense) or map position.

D.va is effective. You can shoot his shield with her unlimited bullet and you can negate his fire strike with her matrix and you c an just fly up to avoid his charge.
