How to counter mauga as a tank?

Hello, after some time I’ve decided to come here and honestly ask for help. I’m currently platinum 4 facing mauga in every game I que into.

Please people with more knowledge enlighten me on how do I counter mauga as a tank. I’ve tried junker queen dva and a few others but it just seems impossible. Dps unwilling to switch to reaper or bastion and support not changing into zen. I just want to know if there is anything I could do if my mates are unwilling to switch.

in plat 4 you can counter him with virtually any tank - all you have to do is ignore him and focus the other people on his team - this is true for every tank including Mauga.

The reason plat tanks are stuck in plat is because

  1. they consistently focus the enemy tank instead of the free kills around him.
  2. The higher you climb as tank the more you’ll notice that tank’s try harder for enemies to focus them and throw cds at them - that’s value for playing tank - soaking damage and taking space. Sometimes just by being in the right space as tank gives you a win.

Mauga counters bastion more than Sigma I’d argue. If you have cardiac up - bastiojn is free ult charge, if you don’t have cardiac - you just shift to cover. If you have neither and bastion kills you - it’s because you’re way out of position. Bastion has no mobility, which means Mauga can eat him for breakfast.

Here are 2 replay codes of D3. One is Winston decamating the enemy team while Mauga can do nothing, and the other is Rammatra. Take a look at how they play (diamond players - meaning they still suck, but it’s what I got at my elo)

P.S. Never mind the first replay, I’m just watching my winston and hes constantly diving Mauga for no reason, i think it was a low diamond game aswell…Ofc he we only wins fights when he focuses anyone else

I one tricked him for a week.

His GREATEST counter is Ana.

Then Sigma, Dva.

Zarya and Orisa are ok.

DPS… mostly need to kill his supports. There is more flexibility on how that gets done.

Thanks, also I mostly play support until recently I have become tired of playing support since you can’t really “hard carry” like in other roles. So I’ve been playing tank which is why I asked this question.

And yes I have noticed plat is like 50/50, but still its possible to enable dps and supports or carry your team on tank rather than support. I usually ask before a game on certain maps if they would want to go dive with me. We usually win the first point if we do, but sadly that’s a really tiny minority of the games I play since most of the time people in plat either don’t know dive or can’t play dive heroes. Which is what I’ve realized as a tank you have to adapt more to your teams playstyle to win games.

Idk, you really can one trick up to mid masters with no hindrance. It’s almost no use to play a proper comp in plat given that nobody synergies well anyway. Nobody ever combos abilities and rarely ults.

I really think you should just play what you find the most fun and work on that hero in order to climb. That’s genuenly how you’ll climb the fastest, if you swap a lot you’ll never master anything, and mid diamond you’ll truly begin to feel that when the ones you’re supposed to counter start to murder you in cold blood.

I’m not saying one trick, but I am saying “specialize”. Winning is temporary but skill is permanent.

That’s the fun thing you don’t best you can do on tank is pick Mauga yourself as well, it’s your supports that have to go counter him with at least Ana or you stand no chance.

You don’t, sigma and d.va does nothing against him. Mirroring him is the only way as a tank player IMO
