How to climb 101

I enjoy people who genuinely believe they are in elo hell.

Being stuck in bronze or silver, or hell even masters for 2 or 3 seasons… Okay yeah you might be hard stuck. But there are a number of reason why you may be hard stuck. I will list for you the common neglected reasons you are hard stuck.

  1. it’s 100 percent your fault you can’t climb out of the rank you’re in
  • Like yeah I understand your teammates suck from time to time and they may be throwing, and? It happens to everyone, we all get bad teammates.
  1. You’re not actively trying to improve
  • Oh boy there are only two people who will read what I am about to say those who say I am wrong or those who understand that what I am about to say is true…

  • For the people who always complain “the dps are bad and can’t kill anything” so let me check my facts real quick you want dps to carry your games? Because as far as I remember if you want to climb you have to work for it right? So why would you depend on other people.

  • Now if you were actively trying to improve when that defeat pops up on your monitor you should be saying to yourself, “what could I have done better?” because I promise you there is always more you could have done. Instead of scapegoating and blaming the dps, tanks, or supports, remind yourself you lost because you didn’t make the better plays you could have.

  1. Grind grind grind
  • if you really want to improve and climb 10 hours a season isn’t enough, put in AS MANY hours as you humanly can.

  • Also grinding solo or duo is the best way to improve as it will give you a true sense of accomplishment where 6 stacking to climb leave you feeling like you were more or less carried.

Realistically speaking you should be able to climb one whole rank each season, BUT that is only if you are actively trying to improve, ask yourself what you could have done better, and stop blaming teammates.

HUGE EDIT: Almost forgot to say, you can only change your own play so what good would it be to complain about everyone else, set it like that for non believers of what I just said.

Thats gonna be a no from me. Nothing is and will never be 100% someones sole fault. Its a team based game that means every person should do 1/6th of the work but in order to Truly Climb you have to do almost half of it it feels like.

im a silver and i agree with all the points here for me its not elo hell anymore my climb is kinda very slow im climbing like 10-15sr a day but its still kind of a climb if seen in the right way  (im a main tank main in high silver so dang it XD) but the main problem is people just want to 1 trick certain heroes and not play for the team so its kind of a big hindrance for the people who complain still when theyre getting countered by everything leading to many bad games which leads to the main complain of elo hell

I will simply say to that “okay” because i really dont want to debate just want to post this for people who are open to facts

Open to facts. So the fact that there are 6 people on a team isnt true? Well in that case what delusional world do you live in. Also asking people to dedicate time to a game they dont have is inhuman. By that logic if anyone does something long enough they are bound to be at a higher spot. Please take these radicalized ideals that are NOT FACTS out of the forums and quit polluting these forums with mis leading information for those actually trying to improve

If you are relying on random people online to be a majority of the reason you climb, then you never will.

can my view be considered good or is it just another hopeless thing to think?

In reality thats how it should work but it doesnt if you read the whole reply youd notice I said that you have to do more work than your team

isn’t that how it should be? if you’re trying to climb you should be trying to prove to yourself you’re better than the people in the rank you’re in by getting better than them

Theres a difference between proving your better and actually being better. If you look at any pro players solo climbs one of the number one things they talk about is the ability to work as a team. One thing that holds so many people back is the fact that they dont use comms or work with there team just watch Jayne teach a group of silvers to play together and they got to plat. Its not just SKILL 4 HEAD!!! Its a multitude of factors

Dafran used comms on his unranked to t500 below masters? oh man I never knew he had to use comms in low ranks

I am gladly going to continue responding sarcastically

if you rely so much on your randoms you meet you’re asking for a piggy back ride so you can dodge all the hard work needed

I don’t see your point here, that you shouldn’t have to be the only reason you climb?

Actually let me put this in a more clear way, have you seen the difference in t500 players versus let’s say golds? It’s a massive difference correct? You think teamwork sharpened their skills they relied on randoms to get good? Or do you think they had the self discipline to improve themselves and forget everyone else.

im a main tank main so is it my fault that im dying to a pharah that has been flying in the air for 20+ seconds and our dps cant bring her down? am i the one responsible for that lost round or match?

You took years to type that out? oofers, but there are things you can do about that, if playing orisa shoot her haha, if rein then position yourself where she has to be wayyyy out of position and in clear los from everyone else, if winston… look for when she is low and jump up at her, youre capable of killing her with orisa and winston. Winston not consistently of course unless its a ground pharah

I think you are kinda missing the point here. No one is saying that you are the reason for every lost game, or that you can win every single game if you improve enough. You ARE going to lose games, but if you consistently play at a higher level than everyone in your games, you will end up winning more than you lose. That is what climbing is, not just winning every match (unless your an actual pro player of course lol).

Edit: IMO the real key to improving in comp, isn’t just to get better at the game itself. You really have to get good at assessing the situation, and deciding the most impactful play you can do at that time. This means looking at your teams strengths and weaknesses, and adjusting your play to match them, ESPECIALLY as a main tank.

See this is what I like about the forums, a reasonable, well thought out reply, and even some hints on how to improve.

It is a stats game, and you have to play a lot for the stats to settle down. Single games will be won or lost. But it is the overall trend you are looking to push around.

But the DPS are bad and can’t kill anything. That’s why I became a DPS main. Now I actually gain SR.

The healers are also bad, but I can find health packs, and the tanks are also bad, but I can position in ways that I’m less reliant on them …and if I kill the enemy quick enough, they can’t kill my tanks and healers even if they are bad.

That said, tanks and healers are often not as bad as the DPS. They’re often playing that role because they want to provide value to the team to get a win. I’m not so sure that very many of my fellow DPS mains are actually interested in winning, I think they’re interested in medals.

Unfortunately, a lot of tanks and healers are actually DPS mains playing an unfamiliar role while being frustrated that they didn’t click their hero faster. In those cases they can be even worse than the DPS.

The good news is that the enemy team has the exact same problem.

i agree but if a main healer decides to switch to dps because of tilt any ideas on what stuff i can do to atleast give our team a winning chance?
