How to change servers in region

Hi, I live in South Africa so my region is automatically Europe as it’s the best connection at 200ms. Because blizzard recently put in Middle Eastern servers I now connect to those unless I’m duoing with someone in Europe. This wouldn’t be a problem usually and initially made me very happy because I got 150ms ping which makes a big difference, but after a month of them I want to change back

The queue times are much longer for each role
I can’t do open queue placements due to lack of players
I can’t use coms as most of my teammates don’t speak English and if they do it’s broken English therefore I’m unable to communicate.
I play with the same players a lot. There’s very little diversity and often queue again and end up with almost the same team
My friends who are higher ranks than me like diamond and high plat pretty much don’t find games as there’s such a lack of players

Is there any possible way for me to switch back to the European servers even if my region is still set to Europe?

Follow this guide.

Thanks dog, it fixed the issue but I’m getting way more ping now. I think one of the IPs blocked is Western Europe. Do you know which one?

WARNING Attempting to manually block IP addresses may result in significant malfunctions with attempting to connect to games of Overwatch. As a forum MVP, I strongly implore that this should not be done with Overwatch. As you can see that thread in the European forums was locked and unlisted, which means this is a task that Blizzard does NOT want you to try and do.

A more appropriate task would be to use a Virtual Private Network service that can manually route your connection to a more desired datacenter location.

Will that not slow my connection down? If I use a VPN.

Yes it can, depending on how your VPN connects to the desired datacenter. Which you have to ask yourself which is more important? Faster ping, or a specific datacenter to connect to for gameplay purposes. Using a VPN is merely a workaround.

Alternatively, a good idea is to start forming friendships with players you can rely on and group up when playing any server to avoid any perceived toxicity in your games.

True, can’t argue with that. Is it possible blizzard will add a selection for the Middle East region and not group it in with Europe?

Considering the Middle East datacenter is the least populated server in that region, unlikely.

Okay thanks for reply, I’ll remove the block and try a VPN. I should probably just move to Canada and not worry about ping ever again.
