How to avoid middle east server? (EU)

I’m from Europe and this is becoming a huge problem for me. I’m sure many European players are experiencing this issue too.

I refuse to play online having +150ms. It’s a waste of time for me and my teammates.

Is there any way I can avoid this nonsense? Is the population THAT low in Europe…?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn’t know, but I would also not be surprised if that were the case. Basically since 2017 ended, overwatch has been known as a bad joke of a game. I have paid no attention to the active population, but I would be more surprised to hear that it’s either sustained or growing than to hear it’s declining.

“Deal with it.”

yup but people dont want to admit that this game is dying

you can firewall the subnets of AWS Bahrain then you won’t be sent to those servers ever

current subnets:

  • 52.94.249.160/28
  • 15.177.87.0/24
  • 15.185.0.0/16
  • 157.175.0.0/16
  • 52.95.228.0/24
  • 3.5.220.0/22
  • 99.77.147.0/24
  • 15.184.0.0/16

and yes, the fact Blizzard are still sending people in Europe to servers 150ms away after being told for almost a year… shows they hold us in utter contempt

Thanks a lot mate! This is exactly what I was looking for.

It makes no sense at all. Hard times for us EU players. Let’s hope for better times.

Attempting to block subnets or other IP addresses can result in technical issues which may result in leaver penalties so do not attempt to block any IP addresses.

Using a VPN directed closer to France or Amsterdam is a better option.

Officially, there is no solution that is supported by Blizzard. Matchmaking works to provide matches based on your ping and matchmaking rating and pair you with other players. This does sometimes mean you have to play at a more distant server than normal if there is not enough players within your own sub-region and skill level.

like I have to do anything Activision want

I would rather accept a leaver penalty than play with 150ms

it’s not 1995, 150ms is not acceptable in an online shooter, ever, in any circumstance

as I said, the fact they persist in forcing us to suffer through this shows contempt for the customer

This is FUD. I have had the ME servers blocked for a long time now and have not experienced any kind of issues.

This is nonsense. I have no problem finding games, there is plenty of people in the Europe to play with. What is more likely is that ME severs don’t have enough players and are adding people from Europe to fill in.

Expecting people to play with high ping and packet loss is absurd.

Glad I live in US East, the worst I get is an occasional West coast game with slightly higher ping – and even that’s very rare.

A friend did this for me while in Estonia a couple years ago. Not sure about what wyoming said but I never had a single issue personally.

When I connect to EU, from US-E, I’m always sent to the server in Germany. I don’t know why the ME servers are even used even the people that are in the ME don’t want to play on them.

150ms isn’t that bad in all honesty. I play in Asia with 175ms as Ana and do just fine. I guess it’s worse if you’re the DPS though.

Yeah I’m from the Middle East and used to play at 140ms for like 4 years or smth until they made ME servers. Now after experiencing 30ms I can never go back to more than 100ms lol.

  • UK -> USA (East Coast): 110ms
  • UK -> Bahrain: 150ms

so it’s worse for UK players than crossing the atlantic

I already did it and it’s working like a charm. I’ll take the “risk”.

Thanks again Chris.

Maybe tell them there, and don’t get confused by non-blue posts.

IF I remember correctly there were recuring threads (around 2 years (?) ago) asking for a own ME server …

I rather get leaver penalty than play in ME servers. And I’m from Middle east
