How the hell did Cassidy lose his arm

He has his arm in the blackwatch skin, and thats all we got. so its sometime between then and OW1. seems really strange that theres like 0 lines about it since it’d be an easy thing to make an explanation for

Currently we don’t know, it’s part of the unresolved questions of Overwatch lore. some clues:

  • Cassidy had the arm during his adolescence among the deadlock gang (deadlock rebels book);
  • Cassidy had it during retribution and in the “uprising” comic;
  • Echo in Reunion is amazed at Cassidy’s arm, which is why we can absolutely confirm that during the time Cassidy was guarding Mina Liao he still had his arm.

the most likely hypothesis is that he lost it during the explosion of the Swiss base which led to the closure of Overwatch. But it was never clear whether Cassidy was present at the event or had left before the task force incident. The only mention in the lore is given by Junkenstein mode, which although not canon, is often a mirror of the lore info. Cassidy/gunslinger makes a very specific comment about his arm:

  • Will o’ Wisp (Tracer): What happened to your arm, Gunslinger?
  • Gunslinger (Cassidy: It was claimed by a darker power.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they could use this as motivation to introduce a new hero in the future “responsible for losing his arm”. A new talon entry in the future? or a mercenary sent by Ashe?they built a possible way to talk about Cassidy in the future, once again.

I still wish Cassidy was called Mccree. I gotten use to the name since Overwatch 1 was launched.

We don’t know much other than it happened after he left Blackwatch and before the events of the Reunion short. He generally refuses to talk about it.

Mcree probably pissed off Ashe one to many times. She told bob to rip off his shooting arm so he would have to retire from being a gunslinger and become a one armed card player. But then he met Space dog that was of human intelligence that kidnapped omnics after the omnic crisis and destroyed them because of his own backstory and used them for spare parts to fix humans to fight back. Mcree used the money from his last heist to buy the omnic arm and regained him abilities but only better.
