How much do servers+maintenance cost?

And can you please start paying that amount? This is starting to get very frustrating.

New servers were to just hype out ow2, now they removed the new servers, and old ones perform worse

It’s wild how completely janky this game is for a AAA title. It looks nice and that’s pretty much it.

Don’t worry, it’s shocking for everyone that huds and features look/work worse than ow1 or are just straight up missing

Everything works fine since the launch of OW2 and some days after a new season. Seems to be a “you” problem.

Tell that to the well over 18 people (including myself) that got booted from my last 5-6 games, or lost server connection.

Probably not just a “me” problem. Past that, the NA-EC server(s) hasn’t been great since S4 launch.

There was a message when logging in last night that they were investigating server log in issues. Not much of a stretch that there were other issues as well. One server issue can often lead to others until they get things stabilized.

Sadly when I logged there was no such message, I checked like 3x over the night.

:person_shrugging:

Hmm, could have been a regional thing. Saw it last night at around 9pm cst. Didn’t have any issues myself, but stayed out of comp just in case.

Guys you have to remember that blizzard is a indie game studio and they dont have the resources of larger companies.

Joking asides, besides the launch of OW2 i havnt had any issues with their servers. People talk about getting disconnected, or the shop isnt working, or whatever. But i havnt come across this at all. So is this actually happening or are people just exaggerating?

WoW charges 15 a month….clearly this game which makes more than that monthly can’t handle the load…

But man can they advertise those shop skins…fix game afflicting bugs? Nah….drape another message across the menus telling us to buy the new shop addition? You betcha!!!

Launch of season 4 was a dumpster fire lmao

You could get into the servers just fine after a short queue, but getting a game to start was constant error starting game. Retrying…

Queues were about 2m, getting the servers to get people into the map was about 10 minutes, getting into practice range was also 10 minutes

Other than that i just went from 90 to 120ms because they removed a server which i guess was central or south(?) So i connect to East again, but it’s still worse than ow1, from 105 to 120ms

Multiple people are complaining about something on the OW forum so naturally, people don’t believe it’s a real issue and have to call that into question.

It does happen, usually after a patch. It’s good to avoid comp on patch days. Occasionally you’ll have a day with server issues, but it usually clears after a few hours.

14 blades cost around 1750-2 k in electricity ALONE to operate on a 30 day “burn”. (About 720 hours of use) . I use to have 2 IBM Blade center chassis fully plugged out with 28 blades. Unless I was doing a project on them to make money. You didn’t dare turn them on.

Bandwith wise Its a ton of cash. T1 use to be around 500 a month.

they’ve also proven quite speedy at fixing shop-related bugs, ones that cause the revenue stream to stop.

Remember last week when there were like thousands of players in a checkout queue? Probably not because it got fixed so quickly.
I wonder why that was?

there’s a very good chance that none of the expenses like that are directly Blizz’s responsibility though. That’s for the service provider running the datacenter that Blizz rents servers from to worry about. I doubt Blizz has in-house infrastructure running their servers.

Fun update: not 10mins ago, 90% of my online friendslist just got kicked off of an NA server. I was in a game and didn’t get kicked (other players in the match said the same for their friendslists). One person said they queue’d in EU but their ping was NA ping.
