They use your QUICKPLAY MMR.
In QP people play FOR FUN.
They use heroes they want to learn, dont play their mains etc.
Payload maps are only 1 rounded. So if you defend on Kingsrow (jokes on you you never play this map ) and enemy team pushes the payload through, its over. There is no attack round.
Using QP MMR for competitive is insane.
What should they do better when they don’t have data and need data? Do you have any suggestions better than that?
Yes, use NO hidden MMR.
Let any player start at Gold (like they did in OW1) and use the placement matches as a metric.
Return to SR system 1-5000 SR.
Let ANYONE start at 2000.
use Placment matches to define the rank you get placed.
If you win your first 2 Matches against the golds and you demolish them, get into plat lobbies. If you also demolish those, get diamonds. And so on.
If you win 10/10 or maybe 9/10 you get placed like 3200-3400.
if you perform mediocre you get placed lower.
Building a matchmaker in a competitive playmode is the easiest thing in the world.
Unless you wanna rigg it. Then you have to make complicated quesionable decissions.
If you read the above. You see what look like sensible suggestions.
And oddly enough it’s pretty exactly how they do it now. They use MMR to keep quick play a fair and hopefully fun environment.
New accounts build up and MMR and their first placements in ranked around around where their MMR is and the rank quickly adjusts to line up. (Remember, you’re not matched on ranks, but MMR)
Although it does have a point with the attack defence thing. QP games should be full matches, so you are at least playing the game.
I can agree with you. They should revert it to its original. Also that old system used to give much more transparency to all players. Plus, stop soft resetting ranks. Its a terrible desicion in my opinion. If you want to reset, do a full reset. If you don’t want, just let it
Game’s been like that since the launch of OW2, perhaps even longer.
But if it’s a new account, where else are they going to pull the MMR from?
Theres a blog post from ow2 devs earlier on about “Setting new players for success” where they found they had to put new players into bronze 5 for them to have anywhere near 50% winrate.
Now QP mmr, while not perfect, is probably a ok middle ground.
https://overwatch.blizzard.com/en-us/news/23896785/overwatch-2-developer-blog-matchmaker-and-competitive-deep-dive-part-1/
We noticed that new players were losing their initial matches much more than they should have, and this trend wasn’t levelling out enough by the time they’d played many more matches.
First, new players initially started at an MMR value slightly below average. You can think of it in terms of skill tiers around the lower divisions of Silver.
This was already below the center point of the player base’s MMR distribution, but the new player win rate was still too low.
We’ve since lowered the starting MMR to a rating equivalent to Bronze 5 and instantly saw huge improvements for new players with a sub-40% win-rate.
The transparency is the Problem. They dont want it. In a non transparency system it is easier to rigg the matches and calculate wich team will win based on hidden mmr.
Competitive. I explained how it worked in OW1.
They use a casual playlist to rank your skill for a competitive playlist.
Okay middle ground?
Yes, outside of not using anything at all.
I think they now also cap the max comp mmr you can get from qp to around diamond or so.
Earlier when you could get straight to gm from qp was not right.
The devs said your visual rank is based off of wins and losses but they use hidden MMR and their matchmaker can’t make lobbies within 2 divisions most of the time so…that means they don’t really care. It’s mostly the casuals that pay for the microtransactions and battle passes so the devs cater to them. They don’t care about competitive and they never have, they wanted to make a PvE game but they were pressured to cater to the Overwatch League for a while until things imploded at Blizzard and all the talent left. Well, almost all of it…the artists that remain are pretty good but they make lipstick for a pig of a game.
Yes but no, make unranked players start at bronze, then rapidly scale their mmr till they lose, and then go up and down till winrate is about 50%, thats how it should work. Im tired of seeing new people in low plat lobbies, they completely throw each round and mmr is like “yep, thats where you belong”, i wish everyone would just start at bronze smh…
That’s pretty much how it does work.
If they’re in “plat lobbies” I assume you mean in ranked (because who cares what they do in qp). Which means they’ve got their 50 wins. So, probably played between 80-120 games to get there.
Peoples MMR starts in bronze (start a new account and you’ll see the first few games are hilarious). If they’ve any level of competence (or aren’t a new new player) they quickly win a bunch of games and their MMR rises pretty fast.
Someone playing badly in a ranked game can happen. Can even happen to the most experienced players.
exactly, new account should be at low silver AT MOST. Stop with the rigged games. make it just based on W/L
This is the only game with a ranked system where players do not start in bronze. The reason is they choose a bell curve instead of a ladder. Bell curves are designed to keep people “engaged” in the middle and not climb
Devs now days are all about time played and money. Whats sad is when a game is good people will play it more often and for longer sessions. They will ask friends to play too.
When the game is bad like this one is now, none of that happens. Go to any other game forum and ask about overwatch. Its basically a laughing stock for most things. From modes, to ranked to prices of skins and whats in the battle pass. Its by far the worst of them all. Just coasting on the coat tails of OW1.
Alot of us still playing are just addicted to the actual gameplay/characters.
So this is actually not how they do the competitive SR. What actually happens is that the hidden MMR decides who you are ranked against. By by using your hidden MMR to match you against players of a similar MMR so that you have about a 50% chance to win with this match system what happens is that you’re not actually playing against people of that SR but more than likely people of your MMR. this is why you see so many people in so-called ELO hell because what happens is they don’t actually advance because the 50-50 system keeps them at that current SR.
Does no one here read anything?
Not true and I could proof it
Why could?
Just do it.
I’ll be waiting.
Grgr has already provided the Devs explanation above. So that might be a good place to start.
Imagine a new Account, that only played dps. Played 62 matches and won 50 out of it. 81% winrate. Then hops into comp right after the 50 wins and gets bloated into a 10% winrate. Every match a stomp fesitval.
How it possible to be low GM and diamond at the same time? Matched pure cancer.
By rigging them.
This was never in Ow1 the case. They drastically increased their EOMM.
And now the fun part:
After losing, losing, losing the predicted rank is STLL at diamond 3
Fresh account without any former season stats.
If you lose 9/10 placement matches you would be around silver or maybe even bronze. But not in this new punishing mmr system.
