In case you needed a refresher: themarysueDOTcom/activision-blizzard-diversity-space-tool/
It’s just over a year to the day since Blizz showed us their totally not creepy diversity calculator. And they didn’t just MacGyver this together with some spare parts and a dream.
Oh no, they paid people from MIT to help create this gem.
So, in the wake of PVEgate, I’m left wondering: how much money did this take away from PVE, which at the time the publication of the diversity tool, Blizz had only cancelled a couple months ago because “muh resources”?

I’m pretty sure someone on the team confirmed they didn’t use it, and that Activision just used overwatch characters as an example when they were showing the tool.
That’s almost worse, because they still paid for it
Can you explain this to me? I haven’t heard of this?
I don’t see how Overwatch paid for it when they had no real involvement to my understanding.
It was honestly pretty creepy and unnecessary.
Imagine a corporate entity trying to gauge how much they can tokenize their characters, instead of drawing inspiration from real people and real places. Or you know, anything that sounds half sane and not something spat out from a Beta version of ChatGPT.
Explaining it doesnt do it justice, you need to follow the link in the first post or just Google it and see the actual charts, they were insane.
Oh yeah it’s definitely creepy and weird, and Activision Blizzard should never have done it. I just don’t blame team 4 for it because my understanding is they weren’t involved.
And pertaining to the original question of “how much resources did this divert” the answer is none.

It was developed by King, so I don’t think it’s fair to say it didn’t divert resources
Its MIT…I’m sure a lor of money for some feel good vibes that anyone with common sense could do without some machine or mathematical equation.
When I saw this I knew they were just dumping money out of nowhere from some rich kids dream job that hasn’t proven to be in the slightest way effective at improving anything.
If you want it to be diverse. Just make it diverse. Who cares. But payoming large sums of your funds to do the right thing that a child could think of is just…there is no words to how dumb this was
What does that have to do with the overwatch development team?
I almost forgot about that thing even more reason to uninstall this PoS

It’s all the same company. Why is ABK paying King employees to duck around with nonsense like this and then (allegedly) not giving the Overwatch team enough resources to deliver on their promises
Can we get it leaked? It’d be fun to pretend i’m creative with just a press of a button.
Plus it sounds like a Sims char tool but let’s pretend it’s cutting edge tech.
