How many of you have actually climbed as a Support main?

On a non-smurf account?

I’ve been playing Support for 9 seasons, and to this day the only way I can ever climb is by playing DPS until I get to my preferred rating.

I understand that Mercy one tricks gained a lot of excess rating for a couple of seasons, but it feels insanely hard to climb as a Support because even when you heal really well, almost never die, get maximum value out of ultimates etc. you still can’t carry a match with unreliable or terrible DPS.

I think this is why there are very few Support players in the top 500 (yes, there are people on Overbuff who have a Support in their 5 characters, but when you look at their stats, that’s only because they fill as Support occasionally while maining DPS exclusively).

Even on Twitch I see Support only players begging Danteh, Dafran, Wraxu etc. to duo with them because it’s the only way they can climb.

If Supports are going to have such low-impact on games I feel like they’re going to have to offer some type of incentive or padding. Otherwise I’m going to continue playing with chat turned off and auto-locking DPS every single game because it seems to be the only way I can reliably impact the outcome of a game.

I’ll believe it when you post on a high rating account.

Regardless when someone literally has mained Support for 9 seasons it shouldn’t be significantly easier to hop on Soldier or Tracer and carry games.

Last last season I played a lot more, watched guides… etc
Climbed from gold to diamond with Mercy, sometimes D.Va.

I probably should have specifically said without playing Mercy, but I did touch on the fact that one trick Mercy’s were artificially gaining more rating than they should have for two seasons. You had people going from Bronze to top 500 in 1 season.

Realised I accidentally typed this on my alt account… but I have had my main since season 1 and I can say I did it on that very account that was stuck in gold for so many season’s.

Considering that I’m still playing Mercy in diamond elo after the nerf and am maintaining it means I deserve to be where I am thanks, I play Moira, Mercy and Ana.

Disagree. This account is about 1,000 rating higher than two of my other accounts. Young accounts place high and maintaining rank is easier. This is why you see older accounts with insane borders at lower rating and a lot of accounts without a single star over Platinum.

Is it as much work as arguing with someone on a forum? Also that account regardless is a bad example. Yeah, you’ve played a lot of Mercy, but you still have more hours as DPS and Tank than Support. Filling as the easiest healer in the game while maining DPS/Tank =/= climbing as Support.

I’ve been a support main since S1, QP is completely different. My 3 top played last season were all supports.

Perhaps attitude is part of the reason you struggle to climb as support. In my experience most good support players give good comms and don’t tilt too hard. Perhaps you’re just better at DPS than support and should play that instead.

By the way, climbing as support is very doable. I went from bronze to masters across 4 seasons as a hard Zen main, rarely playing DPS.

The person just wants to be told “it’s the systems fault not yours, your obv amazing and should be higher” instead of being told that maybe there is more they should be doing or that they can learn more to help.

I told them I did it with mainly Mercy and a little D.Va and they try to make me feel like it wasn’t deserved as I’m apparently a “one trick mercy”.

I looked at his stats on Overbuff because he wouldn’t log on that account, and I looked at all the information and based it off of that. That’s literally what I was talking about when I responded. I didn’t even notice they switched until after.

my overbuff stats are QP because i have not played comp this season yet… Are you a potato? I literally told you they are QP stats.
