How many new heroes we may get with OW 2?

Due to Overwatch 2 development the “3 heroes per year” schedule got disrupted and later completely suspended.

That is why we only got:

  • 2 heroes instead of 3 in 2019
  • 1 hero instead of 3 in 2020
  • 0 heroes in 2021
  • number of heroes in 2022 remains unknown

That leaves us with more or less 6 new potential heroes if OW 2 wasn’t being developed.

Is it possible for OW 2 to release with 7+ new heroes?

I really hope 8-10 at launch. After that, 1 hero every 4 months for at least 3 years.
I don’t care if they have more microtransactions, I want new content (like apex legends)

I am expecting 3 at launch and maybe 3 more for the first 1-2 years in total until they stop again.

Now with PvE on the way, creating heroes will become even more time consuming not to mention even more skins for new and old heroes.

And on top of creating new heroes there will have to be new maps and more PvE content than ever before. If they couldn’t manage content for OW1 properly, OW2 is a hopeless situation.

For now we know that we have Sojourn and Junker Queen was accidentally seen in part in some tech demo so she is very probable.
During a Game Informer visit to the headquarters at the end of 2019 they saw a slide with the silhouette of four heroes, and three of the forms were female. One of them was “a female with short hair, a giant shuriken and a fennec fox like companion”. She is probably the one from Kanezaka. The “male held a crooked staff, looking somewhat like a wizard, warlock, or voodoo priest”.
So there is the possibility of at least four.
Also Magua is a fan favourite and there is the big possibility of him being another one.
Also, but this is merely my opinion, since we’re getting Monte Carlo and Rome and there is a tradition of making heroes and not-deathmatch maps from the same nations (with the notable exception of Rialto), there is imho the possibility of two other heroes.

According to this logic in 2022 one hero will be removed :eye::lips::eye:

Oh, you’re right!

I’ve just edited to avoid confusion

Bare minimum of 5

Sojourn, plus there were 4 silhouettes shown in a French gaming mag and none of them were Sojourn.

So a minimum of 5, BUT

none of those silhouettes really lined up with Asa (there was a woman with a small creature, but that character was describing having a giant shuriken, while Asa uses a sword) or Mauga either, who are extremely likely to become heroes. So reasonably 7.

I don’t think any of them matched up with the Junker Queen either, and her assets were leaked. However its also possible she will be an NPC in the story mode so I wouldn’t make any assumptions on her.

We’re missing 5 heroes currently (Blizzcon 2019, Spring 2020, Summer 2020, Blizzcon 2020, Spring 2021, Summer 2021 minus Echo).

If OW2 comes out next summer I would expect 8 new heroes then. Maybe even 9 heroes because they made us wait for so long and it should be worth it.

In reality I don’t it will be more than 5 tbh.

i think this is because of the lack of proper balance so they basically gave up until 2020 - OW2’s release

Just so hopes don’t get too high, I will remind the court that 2020 had additional complications that may have slowed development by some margin.

Maybe better to assume 2 heroes instead of 3 scheduled for that year.

This is what I’m guessing:

  • 4 silhouettes (one is probably fox girl)
  • Sojourn
  • Junkerqueen
  • Mauga
  • Null Sector Leader or whatever he is
  • 4 remaining MEKA squad members
  • Maximilien maybe (don’t know why but I think he won’t be a hero)

So this adds up to 12-13 new heroes.

We only got 1 hero in 2019, so it’s 6 heroes.

Sigma and Baptiste if I’m not wrong.

my bad, you’re right, but from my calculations it’s still 6

  • 2019 is missing 1 new hero
  • 2020 is missing 2 new heroes
  • 2021 is missing 3 new heroes (bcos it’s already confirmed we’re not getting a hero before OW 2 and it’s not coming this year)

So it’s 6, because Echo was released in 2020

Oh yes i didn’t count the Blizzcon 2021 hero because…we never know.

My guess is that 5 heroes in ow2 launch, just because players need to test them all and figure out their counters and team comps etc etc.

Adding too many heroes will just make everything so confusing

Said it before and I’ll say it again: four. Two dps, one tank, one support. I’ll be shocked if it goes any other way.

Maybe three DPS. Hell, why not?

There’d probably be at least 1 new hero for each role on launch.

They’re going to trickle release the ones they have (if they have any). Remember, Blizzard’s goal is to string people along as much as possible, not make quality products. OW2 is going to be sold on the premise that we are getting a lot of new content - in reality it’s just backfill that we would have got if they weren’t such a scum company.
