How many more unique heroes can Blizz realistically add?

I can think of a handful of concepts for each roll currently, thats not already filled, but I feel like we are closer to power creeping and retreading on previous hero concepts vs brand new ones.

They can do plenty. We still don’t have a shotgun support. No flame thrower hero. Don’t have too many melee based heroes. Especially with how creative they are believe me, i’m sure they have plenty of ideas.

As many as they want. The problem is that they are afraid.

I’m keeping the faith… it’s amazing what you can do when you’re paid to do it

There is never a limit but the problem is adding something new can screw over a lot of characters then its either said characters get buffed (they become quote on quote OP) or the new character gets nerfed into garbage tier.

Mei is the flame ice thrower

Gimme melee DPS to complete the trifecta of Brig, Rein and the DPS

New hero Maximilien hits people with his briefcase

easily solvable if they stop designing heros to do everything and make patches more nerfs and less buffs.

there are tons of hero ideas unfilled, its just that the team hasnt been trying too hard, Ramattra was insanely well done merging of poke/brawl into a hero and im sure they could do even more creative stuff for other roles, but currently with the layoffs im not sure they can for now.

i think it wil get better, but we’re definitley in for a few more “what if we combined-” heros for a bit

Look at League or Dota. That’s how many they could add.

A ton. How many more are needed is the real question you should be asking.

Imo, none.

You know they want to release another japanese melee hero. You know they want to. My compromise would be this hero should be set up more like a Yakuza member and less like a ninja. Something less generic than another ninja hero.

Overlapping abilities would actually be better for the game than worse. It would mean in situations where something is a must pic because of x reason there now is an alternative option. Mobas succeed because they have 3-4 characters that all fill a same sort of niche so if you only like 1-2 or they are banned you have options still

Juno is a good example. She had speed which offers an alternative option to lucio. Her speed is up less frequently than his but she provides more healing. So not only is there alternatives there are tradeoff depending on what you need

For instance, we should really get another anti-heal hero added to the game so ana doesnt just become the only pick when anti is required. But it would likely be added to their kit in a way where it works differently to nade and the hero plays differently from anas playstyle.

I could see it working on a more mobile assassin-style glass cannon off support which focuses more on damage at a cost of healing. This hero could have a smoke bomb ability which obscures vision in an aoe, and whenever an enemy is inside they are anti’d. So it both allows them to use it as an engage tool to hopefully help secure kills or also use it to escape an engage on them.

So if you need anti but want more of a standard support you can go ana but otherwise you can go this other support who also has anti but in another form

The support role is very bottlenecked rn where they have tried to make every support unique to its detriment. Often you have to play ‘this’ or ‘that’ support because there is no other support who can do that job. With dva being prominent, you really just need to always have a brig. There is no other support that offers that peel and anti-dive gameplay so you are funneled to only playing 1 hero. If we had another brig esque support whose job was to be a backline defender, suddenly you would actually have choice in what you could play

None, give me 3 more flavours of Wrecking Ball!

Until we get an auto-aim hyper mobile support with immortality on E also with fade tp wall climb flying support + hitscan ranged 1 shot on left click (did I mention this is a support btw) its not over

Like “Destruction Cube”? A weasel in a square mech?

Or “Danger Triangle” which would be a snake in a flying triangle UFO?

While the initial damage is the same… a flamethrower could utilize mechanics like afterburn, quick ramp up damage (generally the more heat goes into something the worse the damage gets exponentially) , and cauterization (like… even more heal reduction or at least resistence to beneficial effects) or even being able to spread damage… kinda like they experimented with (badly) on dynamite.

I want a mini support wrecking ball. Imagine the chaos. Oh, and a drone hero! Oh… and a mech support hero!

To be honest, Overwatch doesn’t reach 2% of World of Warcraft

So, yeah. There’s a long way for new heroes with new abilities

I want a builder hero that basically has torb old armor pack, and sym shield gen.

Kind of like Engineer from tf2.
