How many characters do guys main? What’s the optimal amount in order to not spread oneself too thin?
sym, mercy and moira.
1 lol… .20 characterinos
Ashe, Dynamite and Bob
I main Brig, but I can easily do Hog, Mei, or Soldier if needed, even a Zen every once in a while.
I try to main at least one in each catagory for flex capibilities, but really you wanna main around 4 to 5.
Let’s see…
It’s becoming blurred for me who I main. I mean there are multiple characters that I’m very comfortable with.
Symetra, Brigitte, Moira, Orisa, they aren’t a challenge anymore. I think I can say that I main them.
Pharah, Mei, Reinhardt, Soldier, I’m comfortable with them, not really great but I think I’m more or less reliable. I like playing them, they can pose a challenge in terms that I can improve my skill with them.
Ashe is someone I’m picking up now, I’m not terrible but not great either.
And then there’s Mercy…
I used to be very great with her, everyone said that when I was the healer and the Mercy, everyone got heals, they could rely on me. Even after all the nerfs. But lately, I think I just lost my nerve or burned out or I don’t know but I’m… Well, my performance isvery suboptimal.
There.
I think that you should know very well 3, but having other 3 extra characters to fill roles is good too.
In my case, I main Lucio and Torb. I also play a lot Moira, when lucio is already taken. Those are the 70% of my games. When I need to main tank, Orisa (but lately I have started playing rein, as no rein is losing in many games), and for off tank, Roadhog, dva or Winston.
If torb is not working because of the enemy pharah, I with to soldier or sombra.
After the life stealing buff of reaper, I started to play Ana in capture the flag, and now I play her in competitive too as long they don’t have genji or tracer.
This next season I plan to train Baptiste and sombra. Sombra is going to be a big counter for Baptiste.
So, yes, too may characters. But sometimes not playing what you know to cover a role is better for the team, as long the rest of your team is good in their roles. With this you can avoid situations like 1 tank, one healer, 4 dps.
I mostly play genji
But I can play a lot of heroes very well
Like hanzo, tracer, ana, zarya and more
U can call me a genji main I guess but I hate being called a genji one trick when I’m not
Yes I’ll try to pick genji if I can but if the team needs or genji doesn’t work I can switch to something else
Junkrat, McCree, Widow with Ana/Brig as my supports. Been playing a bit of Zen lately as well. Hanzo is more of an… experiment, than anything else.
This is about right, I think everyone should be able to play one DPS, tank and healer competently, but you likely will “main” one of the three. You should have several alternates in each category just in case.
in the OWL teams, you have players focused in each role, but there are flex players, just in case.
We don’t play in pro teams, so the just in case is a constant.
Seeing the replies, maybe the “flex players” that hate on role queue aren’t that many huh?
I “main” Doomfist and Genji primarily, but my core hero pool (heroes that I’m extremely confident on) is around 5. Doomfist, Genji, Zen, Hanzo, and Mei. I can always fill on heroes like Lucio / Moira / Hog / D.va etc. but I don’t play them enough to consider them part of my primary hero pool.
I feel like a decent size hero pool for the average player would be anywhere from 3 to 6.
Main is a stupid word, look at them like kits and learn to use as many kits effectively as you can. Only you can tell if you are effective with a kit.
I main doomfist but never actually play him because most of the time it would be detrimental.
It depends what setting you’re playing in. If you’re on a team, learn to play all of the heroes of a given role. For flexing solo on ladder, learn two heroes of each role.
Main is just a word for the kit you use the most and are the most familiar with.
You have good taste. Me too!
These days, Zen and Rein, but I play Moira, Lucio, Winston, DVa, Brig, Soldier, Hanzo, Junk when they will work out.
Wish I had put in the time on Zarya.
