This hero has an automatically regenning resource (think like a tracer blink). You have a max of 4 of these. Using any ability uses one resource. With this you can apply a damage boost to an ally, a burst heal (with heals over time), or a damage boost for yourself.
Here’s the wild part! She actually has her own agency, and is incentivised to attack. Whenever you get a headshot, you get one resource back, which means skilled players can have a disproportionately higher uptime on all of her moves.
Imagine if mercy could actually play the game. I think OW should take some notes.
Thats the same mechanic moira has. She has to damage to earn heal uptime. Mercy is a movement base char. Idk why yall think mr supports are well designed. Their sustain is broken while being boring to play
I mean, if we want to be pedantic, this is also brig, no? My point is that you can both heal and damage boost, and actively play towards team combat, and this is a good model of how its done.
I disagree. I think Mantis is far closer to Zen than to Mercy. It’s just that Mantis is weighted more towards healing than damage; her damage boost is only 12% and is more resource-intensive to apply and maintain than Discord.
I’m not convinced there’s really a Mercy-like in Rivals at all.
You’re right, the healing, damage boosting hero is nothing like the healing damage boosting hero.
I mean, not if they have to be 1-1 to qualify. I’m just saying they have clear similarities, and I think a more active mercy would be a net positive to OW.
No it didn’t. Mantis has nothing in common with Mercy. Mercy was designed to be a low skill floor character and you will never be effective on Mantis with that low skill, so the barrier to Mantis is quite steep. If you want to compare then Jeff would be a much better choice since his heals are also infinite and he’s easy to pick up and get value of.
that said, let me assume for a moment that you mean that Mercy can’t actually be played?
If thats not what you meant, feel free to clarify
If that is what you meant, then the statement is simply incorrect. Mercy is 100% playable in any mode where she is available in the character selection screen
There has never been a time when she has not been a playable character in this game
IDK why you are being so rude. That’s the problem with this community. Maybe I’ll just stick to the other game, at least their community is kind so far. This place has been nothing but insults since I got here.
How is me pointing out that mercy and mantis play completely different being rude?
The only similarities between them is that they both heal and damage boost.
Mercy is like a fly incredibly slippery mobile and hard to hit, mantis doesn’t have any movement ability (she just has a faster base movement speed), mercy can Rez mantis can’t, mantis can sleep enemies, mercy can’t.
They don’t play the same so neither should be compared.
How about we let Mercy be Mercy and stop trying to destroy her for the people that like the way she plays? You can improve the design of heroes without completely altering/reworking their entire playstyle and ruining the character for tons of people that have grown to love this playstyle since 2016.
Not every hero in a hero shooter needs to “hit shots” and aim. I don’t care what anyone says. Even some heroes in Marvel Rivals don’t “need to aim”. E.g. Scarlet Witch, Cloak and Dagger, and I’m sure they’ll add even more.
My guy if you think I am rude, I don’t think online gaming is for you.
I laughed at your logic not you as a person, I didn’t insult you or degrade you. Or anything like that.
If anything, mantis solved MOIRA so many people complain that Moira is too easy and has no utility apart from healing. Mantis is Moira, the more you damage enemies the more you heal allies and she doesn’t have an easy get out of jail free card like Moira does.
I thought the point of this post was “Rivals does Mercy right”, but to me, they haven’t tried to do Mercy at all. Mantis is a different kettle of fish to Mercy in the same way that Zen is.
Anyway, I’m not sure that changing Mercy to be a combatant is a good idea any more. Back when we had a shortage of options in the support roster, sure, a Mercy that’s still satisfying for Mercy players while also catering for people craving a less pacifistic playstyle would have hit the spot.
Nowadays, I don’t feel that so much. Kiriko scratches that itch for me. So I think it’s best to let Mercy be Mercy for the folks who enjoy her, and there certainly seems to be a whole lot of those.
I’m sorry you’ve had a rough time. These forums are especially tense at the moment because the season fourteen patch has at least one thing to hate for everyone, plus people are tired of Rivals discussion instead of OW discussion.
