I’d honestly be willing to wait until 2025 if we got a full story mode start to finish. The current Invasion story was a nice intro, but it felt like it ended just when the story started going somewhere. I’d love to have a full story to sink into, and I’d be willing to wait 2 or more years to get it.

I would rather them just take the PvE out of my cutscenes and bring up talks of producing a full on movie or series with Netflix or Hulu.

If you are still waiting for OVERWATCH’S story mode you are intentionally sabotaging your own gaming experience. Even right now for 15 dollars you can get a whole game with a better story built in by devs actually passionate about the work they did.
FF14 is 20 dollars on steam right now and you can play up to the second expansion without subbing.

If it’s with this barebones gameplay, then I’d rather they scrap it and put out a CG animated series like Riot Games has done. Actually, this team has a Riot Producer, why the hell aren’t they plagiarizing a winning IP management formula?

A story mode has no impact on how I play or spend money today
It’s not like I’m gonna play more because I’m anticipating future content and I certainly am not spending money with the expectation that they’ll deliver something more in the future lol

I honestly have no real interest in a PvE mode, i know thats controversial to say.
That being said, i would love an Arcane type tv show for Overwatch instead. That would be WAY better than a PvE mode, just saying.

Do I prefer full stories all at once? Yes.
Do I think this episodic release is going to create problems with a difficulty curve down the line? Yes.
Do I think the game could survive waiting 2-3 more years for the story to be finished? No.
Would I rather have some now as I am going to be playing OW over the next 2-3 years anyway then have nothing for that time and just be waiting for 1 weeks worth of content for 2-3 years? Yes.
Basically I get the problems with episodic releases but at the end of the day it is the same argument as why OW2 was released: you cant just not release content in a live service game for years on end and expect that game to still be around when the content is ready.
But this isn’t like OW1. The current game would still get the new heroes in PVP, the battle pass, new maps, etc. It’d just be the story missions on hold
There was before but now you can just play most unimpeded.
I dont want them spending any more time on PvE to be honest. Lets just focus on PvP. If people want a PvE game, there are many games they can play and enjoy.

I don’t think there will be a full “story mode” at some point to be honest. Unfortunately, OW is not story-driven game, like WoW for example. But even WoW bends the story to a high degree to fulfill gameplay needs. In the case of PvP sessional pew-pew-pew game like OW, the lore always will be very fragment, non-consistent and barely written. Just a few well designed (no joke here, Bliz still has top tier graphic designers) pictures/comics/videos to support characters background a little, but no more than that.
What’s the point in actively asking for less content? I know, when I was coming up, I got PVP and PVE content consistently into my games with no issues. Why can’t Overwatch have that?
Good for you, but I personally dont think that the PvE experience so far is good. The cutscenes and the story is, but not the PvE. If that is the stuff we get every year (2 or 3 missions a year) and sacrifice a ton of people for it (that need to work on it all the time), I dont really want it.
I rather want the resources to be spent on more maps (maybe sometime two new maps) and game modes maybe. I dont know what the people can do who make currently PvE, but for me… I dont see the point in a half-baked product. I know what they wanted to do, but so far I dont really see it.
This will not happen I know, but I dont want a full story mode in OW. Mostly because how unrealistic it is to get it and how crazy the ride was to this point. No more PvE.

Its a tough position to be in, really. You used to be able to get PVE, PVP, AND story mode content without worrying about resources being pulled around. Even if you don’t care for the PVE content, I think everyone should reflect on how much modern gaming is suffering now.
Somehow, they’re making more money than ever and also giving us less content.
I doubt it will be finished if ever.
Honestly it would be nice if there was animation tv series like arcane. For people who don’t play games and for the fans alike.
