How long does it take, for real? Reaper out of the game SR = 2750, reaper in the game SR = 2250, this little piece of trash gets away with almost everything, he’s obnoxious, how bad a balance has to be to get that kind of atrocity in a game? What is wrong with the devs. It has been 2 or 3 season it has become problematic in our elo, reaper for tanks is an instant killer, nothing to play around, you got to have 1000% hook accuracy, or charged 100% with zarya, with still a bubble and 2 healers on you the entire time, with reinhart, you can’t do anything, how long does it take to change a number in a xml. I can’t count the amount of games that are literaly unplayable. There’s so many things that makes this game not enjoyable, why not fix what is fixable easily by just changing a number, this blows my mind, the amount of resources needed to deal with a reaper is unbelievable. It’s to the point that if you don’t have a reaper on your team, you’re done, don’t even play, it’s not throwing, it’s not wasting your time.
Reaper is only good in low ranks even then he’s easy to deal with when you have a mei or pharah.
Just don’t run a roadhog into a reaper and expect to live. =\
HoG can obliterate reaper with his combo pretty easily. Reaper is only really an issue for HoG if your isolated and miss your stuff, which I guess is a thing in lower ranks.
But really, Reaper and Bastion are by far the two worst heroes in the game atm. Reaper is pretty decent verus Bastion though.
The amount of times I headshot melee and boop reaper as Lucio where someone just finished him with a tap if I didn’t finish him myself because someone damaged him is insane.
He’s not a good hero. He’s very easy to deal with on any role.
Its honestly amazing how badly blizz mishandled OW. With the tanks alone they made it mind numbing. One tank is all but forced to use a shield while the other gets a choice between zarya and losing. Then they make a handful of heroes that tanks literally cannot deal with like reaper/mei/brig/phara and anyone with range.
Then its like the “Who Killed Hannibal” Eric Andre show skit where blizzard wonders why no one wants to tank.
No one wants to tank because they tried and were frustrated that didn’t win by existing. Tank isn’t a middle school talent show, you win by playing well not by being present. I find myself climbing by just not making really, really big misplays. There are so few good tanks that it’s not hard to climb using PBSR.
When I first started comp several years ago my buddy told me that Reaper and Mei are the gatekeepers of the Gold/Plat border and Pharamercy is the gatekeeper of the Plat/Diamond border. They feel oppressive at lower ranks because they are easy to play and easy to counter. High time to kill, bad positioning and a lack of target priority give Reaper a huge advantage. It makes sense that a hero that is designed to exploit misplays does well the lower you go.
I can agree with that statement, I can’t tell you the times as a Reaper a Hog has hooked me shot me once with a the shotgun and was shocked I wasn’t dead as I just poured rounds into him and killed him due to the health steal. I can’t tell people enough on my team if we have a Hog, if you don’t know the quick combo to kill a DPS don’t pull someone in like reaper. You are just making it easier for him to kill you. He will win that match up everytime if you can’t put more damage down.
However I though Reaper overall isn’t too bad, if you need tips how to counter him look up guides on YT, they literally have videos made some folks on 1 tip to counter each hero.
I’ve always felt like my movement abilities as Reaper are a bit inadequate. I really appreciate that Roadhog steps in and gives me a better one! He looks scary, but he’s really a standup guy.
I like it when people say “it’s easy to deal with a reaper”, again, it’s low ranks, you can’t hope for grouped attacks on anyone, so reaper wins games easily. Now reaper + bastion + double shield, don’t even hope to hold a point or push in in low ranks, that’s how OW is broken. There’s no guide on “how to make your mid-gold team work as a team”, if anything, you can’t say anything, because every body feel micromanaged, and will tell you to “st*u” or “*u”, so you’re basically stuck in a broken game, forced to lose. I had games with full teams of diamonds on both sides, playing a good zarya (winning and losing, but the games were really great), and now I get in silver games where a bronze player is destroying everybody, I get literally headaches trying to find a way to not lose, because there’s nothing you can do if your own team doesn’t want to mirror, that’s broken. How can I be plat and do good when the next day lose to a bronze player that feels like a GM just dropped in low ranks to have some fun. And stop it with the “guide to this” “guide to that”, I’m only 1/6 of a team, that wont help
I’m not giving this advice as a high rank player to the low level scrubs. I’m not good at the video game (I was in Bronze for ages) and I’ve done my climbing in solo queue. Teaming up against Reaper is very good, but it’s also not the only way to counter him easily.
If you play dps: Widow, McCree, Ashe, Hanzo, Torb, Genji and Mei can deal with a Reaper by themselves. He’s likely going to make a beeline for your tanks or supports (most Reaper players have a strong preference for one or the other, so after the first fight it’s not hard to predict). Make sure to have LOS of where he wants to be and kill him from range. If you play Genji I’d dance above him and defect often.
If you play support: Go something that can run away from him when like Moira, Mercy or Lucio. Or if you have decent aim Zenyatta and Ana are quite good against Reaper. Anas especially bully Reaper with anti-nade to deny him his sustain and sleep dart to cancel his ult. Defensive ults are also quite good against Death Blossom, which most Reapers choreograph.
If you play tank: Dva eats his ult but should keep distance otherwise. Zarya can get a lot of charge out of a Reaper and should win that matchup. Orisa’s fortify reduces his ability to damage her (and heal himself). Her pull is great for making his shots less effective and it’s not hard for her to headshot him with his large head hitbox. That matchup goes either way for me. Honestly as long as you are trying to pay attention to where the Reaper is and stay away from him you should be fine. As long as you are not picking Winston or play Roadhog without knowing his kill combos (which do one-shot Reaper). If you pick them then you are just making it almost impossible for your team to kill him through all the health you feed him.
When I play Reaper I win a lot because people don’t even check flank routes. They only start to think about me when I am already half way through eating their frontline. Just a few peaks behind before a fight starts or a little bit of thought to what I might be up to when I am out of the fight destroys me.
If your team feels micromanaged then you should record your comms and listen back to them. It’s really easy to be clumsy with communication and offend people. I tell people what to do in every game and I’ve never been told that I’m micromanaging them.
Reaper is actually one of my worst heroes, I feed quite often when I play him.
But I decided to try him the other day, it was quite hysterical. Tank players in low elo are SHOOK of that hero lmao
