how its going:
Real-Time Text Moderation
- If another player types a message into Text Chat that is detected to be potentially disruptive, offensive, or harmful to other users, the message in its entirety will be hidden from other players.
sorry but thats some Orwell 1984 sh!t to me

So the complaint is that toxic chat gets automatically hidden? While if you posted the entire section, it says you can press a button to see it or go into settings and disable it being hidden entirely.
The point is that it is another erosion on free speech.

Turn it off. Problem solved. Also this is their game, there is no free speech. They can decide what type of language is acceptable or not. Not everyone wants to see toxicity in the game.
what the heck is “toxic chat”? is there a legal definition?
idk your experience but voice chat is kinda dead and chat is next. my uneducated guess

Whatever blizzard seems to call potentially dispositive, offensive, or harmful to others. Which again, we have the option to turn off the setting.
meta, X and others do it the same way and free speech is gone.

There never was free speech in the game. It’s not like there is some law to allow people to say whatever they want without consequences.

Overwatch is Microsoft’s product, not your soap box.
You think McDonald’s would let you spray paint your “based” opinions on their windows? Exact same thing.
so when the internet is effectivly owned by a few companies (like meta, x, google etc) and their CEO’s have their very own interpretation of free speech, ur willing to let it go this way? you think its enough to be able to free speech in your backyard? free speech matters where an audience is
Literally turn off the setting and your complaint in this thread goes away. It’s a video game, you’re free to say what you like, but not free from consequences. Other than some censored words you can type pretty much whatever you want.
Ohhh…
Not being able to swear in a video game is Orwellian nightmare world topic. WOO!
where’s my popcorn?

THE WEAK MANS!
I didn’t even argue. I love these. Just watching how far you go with this.
Well, there will be more of an argument if/when that day comes. For now they are trying to reduce people being rude to each other. Hardly seems like a big deal.
not any further. wont start arguing with people having 20k posts on a gaming board. got kids to feed
Oh come on. I got like 6 more hours to kill at work. Please?
You’ve even attacked my post count! it’s looking great!

Okay… First, you purposely cut off the part where this setting is optional, like all disingenuous people do. You don’t like it, then turn it off. Second, Blizzard does not have the man power nor the motivation to monitor every single word that is typed in their chat boxes or to listen to every voice chat. Blizzard is not determining what is “offensive” or “toxic,” we the players are setting that standard when we report someone. Only then does Blizzard launch an investigation, or at least that’s what they are trying to lead us to believe.
Whatever your opinions are on how Blizzard handles reports of communication, the fact stands that we all hit “I agree” on their ToS. They are legally allowed to set the rules on speech within their game. It does not violate the First Amendment. The First Amendment protects against GOVERNMENT censorship not restrictions of private companies.

If I had kids at all, worrying about the way my speech is policed in a video game would be at the bottom of my concerns.
Just saying.
