In recent interview the dev have teased that the next hero will be cute as in “Mercy cute”. She’s beautiful but IMHO she’s far from cute. She is mature, reserved and calm which are often the very opposite character of cuteness. D.va and Mei are cute, but Mercy, just like Widowmaker, isn’t.

Apart from proving that people just keep posting the same stuff, it’s also confirming that everyone really cares about trivial things.
The skin is cute but mercy alone is not.

Idk, I absolutely hate the fact they refer to Mercy as cute.
Mercy is confident, strong-willed, beautiful, posed, kind, sarcastic, and even sexy.
Last thing I’d describe Mercy as is the word “cute”.
Cute is a very childish term IMO.

Same honestly. She’s an almost 40yo woman. As a woman myself in my 30s, being referred to as “cute” would probably just make me cringe internally.

I’d argue that she’s cute well before she is sexy. Tracer and widow and hog. Sexy. But mercy is cuter especially in her sitting and dance emotes.

Honestly, I know little of Mercy’s lore since I never really followed much of the out of game experiences. I mostly only know stuff from the archives and in-game voicelines.
Having said that there is a very big disconnect from how I have seen people behave and what her voicelines. What you said I’d totally agree with.
“How barbaric”
“You should really get that looked at”
“I have the distinct feeling I’m needed somewhere” (The this is cringe, I need to leave)
“Sometimes I’m not sure why I even bother”
“Someone call the whambulence”
“Questionable judgement”
“Your welcome!”
All of these lines are somewhat sarcastic and conflictory in nature. Showing annoyance with the situation.
At the same time, Mercy fits into an opposite sort of situation where people seem to attribute her actions as a more playful and cute.
At this person has already said. Mercy’s parasol, relax, applause, laugh, emotes do not help her matters at seeming confident and outwardly independent. Why does her applause end with her shrinking back, shoulders down, clasping both hands inward. Almost an old movie style ‘swooning’ kind of motion. Why does the laugh emote do something similar?
Then, compare this to Reaper clap who does a slow clap, then finishes with reaching forward doing a final big clap. You can just feel from reaper an amount of contempt and sarcasm from doing the slow clap. Or say his slice emote where he drags his thumb across his neck a common gesture for “your dead”. That’s note cute body language. That’s scary body language to be around. Mercy ahs none of that.
Mercy’s emotes and the inflection she puts into a variety of voicelines does not help her at all at seeming this independent person kind of like Ana, Kiriko, and Moira. Mercy I can only say just seems like someone that comes across as like defiant, but kind of fluttery at times.
A variety of people attribute endearment/flittery/vulnerability as cute. The vulnerability part in particular I think you see a ton of her just how her playstyle comes out. She’s literally the main character that can’t defend herself well giving all her abilities to bolstering others. The sort of selfless bit I think several attribute to bordering that endearment/cute threshold.
Cute in the end is probably not the right word, but Mercy certainly straddles this gray line between two different sides from voicelines, character projections people have, and just how she carries herself in animations.
When people think of confident independent people in this game I think to Ashe, Moira, Baptiste. Mercy, Dva, Junkrat, Hammond at the cutsy sort.
So am I but I’m still cute!

I feel like this is just semantics and people looking way too deep into a word that might as well just be a synonym for “looks good” when applied to an adult.

Mercy is cute. She is also beautiful and elegant and sassy yadda yadda yadda. People can people multi faceted lol.

I think they used the wrong descriptor. I think all they wanted to say is that Mercy is attractive. But they used cute instead and I don’t even know why.
