How I got over rank anxiety

I told myself if I belong in masters I’d get to masters even if it’s just low masters sure I’ll drop but I’ll get my “True” rank back eventually, even if my “Current” rank is what people look at. If you reach a “Peak” don’t stop playing there that’s your rank and I assure you you can get back to it.

I’ve been masters 5 like 3 times now.

But anyways yeah I’m as of right now happily masters 5 (Lifeweaver is ridiculous in both damage and healing and play making).

I think people really need to stop worrying about their rank. If it’s an indicator of skill, losing a rank just means that you probably weren’t at that level yet. That’s fine, you’ll just climb back up when you are.

No sense in being at a rank you can’t play in

I just realized that it is a video game and that adding the word competitive to the mode does not magically make it competitive. It was quite easy to overcome that “anxiety.”

Just stop caring about your rank. Stop caring about winning every game. Try to improve your gameplay in each game, and make less mistakes, don’t try to win. You will simply just win more if you stop focusing on and sweating about winning, and focus on improving and playing better. Learn that L’s are fine.

It helps to develop a stoic mindset when it comes to flamers though, but that goes for QP too. My QP games are 3x more toxic than my comp games.

Some people start smurfing to overcome rank anxiety. But you don’t even have to do this. Easy solution to this is to just make a second account. And only play ranked on your main account when you’re feeling your best. But on days when you aren’t feeling your best but still want to play ranked, play on your second account. If you can’t be bothered creating a second account, just play quickplay on days you aren’t feeling your best.

Ups and down are natural in MMR. Your true rank is more like average, not a peek.

Slid said everything - you should focus on fixing your mistakes and improving. Rank is irrelevant. When you have GM skill you will be there fast. And when you fall - you will come back. Gaining and loosing MMR points is an illusion.

Also I recommend Spilo videos about rankings. He told that on a bad day GM5 can fall to Diamond for example. Combination of underperforming, tilt and random nature of matches.

Eventually I kinda just start seeing ranked as QP with silly numbers attached. Ironically enough people are less mean there than in QP.

I’m just glad they’re doing away with the stupid 5 wins/20 losses thing and just having rank changes shown after every match (I’m pretty sure). I don’t play too much ranked so it didn’t really hit me how much it sucked until recently when I had the classic “Wow, that last game went great, everyone played really well and I feel good about myself… Aaaaand I forgot that i had went 5-6 and I’m deranking. Crap.” moment.

Eskay has a really good video describing how the current ranked system (not just matchmaking or game balance but mainly presentation iirc) just feels awful.
