How does Winston fit into society?

How exactly does Winston coexist with the normal people around him? Does he usually go out in public or just stays at the watchpoint all the time? Does he live in isolation from everyone (except his colleagues and those that do know of him) or can he just, for example, casually go to the store to buy peanut butter willy-nilly? Do people just know him as “that one mutated gorilla scientist which escaped from the moon”?

He pays taxes so he’s clearly a recognised citizen. In Zero Hour though the people were surprised to see a talking gorilla coming to the rescue.
I know I’m probably overanalyzing it and that I should suspend my disbelief but I’m just curious how Winston relates to the rest of the world. Is there any canonical evidence that may suggest either case? Has anyone talked about it before?

He lives in a half cave house and only seems to leave his house for ow missions. Idk how he gets food or technology though. Probably delivered.

Also i don’t really remember but in the recall cinematic wasn’t the ow team seen as criminals. If that’s the case then there is no way he would leave watchpoint.

I’m kinda confused to, I think it’s more of a suspended disbelief kinda thing. It’s implied he just hides away most of the time and he’s super lonely? Hammond is the same way, he never shows his face outside of his mech and he even has a voiceline: “self assessment: lonely rolling ball”

People shouldn’t be surprised of Winston. That’s a continuity mistake. After all the endless good and bad news OW gets. Who’s gonna go OMG MONKEY!

The public should be scared of Winston. He was the only one that escaped the primates revolt that killed the researchers from Horizon.

except he was only a child when that happened

He was an adult. Look a his specimen 28 skin and Hammond Origin video:

fair enough, I didnt watch that video
but still, i am sure people on the ground knew winston was coming, after all, something just doesnt get launched from the moon without someone knowing

But how much did people know of what was happening on the moon? Was it a secret programm? Did they just said it was some malfunction and not a revolt?

I mean, there are still trash and meteors falling on Earth everyday so…an escape pod landing in the Ausrtalian Outback, no one cares. But an escape pod landing near Gibraltar and Overwatch - that will get attention. Unless they covered Winston’s landing for some time - that wouldn’t be the first thing Overwatch had to cover.

The world knew about him stopping Doomfist tho : the title on the newspaper on Doomfist Origin story says “PRIMAL PUNCH - Gorilla from the Moon save the day”

But before that, did the public know about him? I mean, he paid taxes in Switzerland so he was probably recognized as a citizen and a “person” with papers and that kind of stuff.

Oh well, I never thought that much about Winston before, so thanks for that I guess xD
