How does this ranking system work?

I am genuinenly wondering how this system works.

A few weeks ago I started playing again, warming up, practise etc. In ow1 ive been platinum for many seasons. So I did placement for healing. Won 5 games in a row, felt like playing against ppl below my skill. Was top healing and top dps ( dps part kinda easy on moira tbh) of the healers. won 5 games and got placed in gold 5. I was like… hmm ok. Wierd, but maby still rusty + I read something about they place you lower in ow2 to work your way up. So not bad I guess… So ok…

Played another 7 games. lost 2 won 5 during that . Also performing good on my healing etc. And after 5 wins I get deranked to gold 1? What is this? What am I doing wrong? This system feels broken. Gold 5 I might understand, but being nearly as silver level now, I will feel sorry for the silvers… Im no god or anything. But I def know I am a platinum player.

Winning these games with top heal and dps constantly and be meaningful, I dont get why this game can decide that I need to derank 2 more! So can anyone tell me why and how? Cuz I am clueless.

gold 1 is almost plat lol
gold 1 = 2400 - 2499
gold 5 = 2000 - 2099

Right , I thought gold 5 would be close to plat. So its the other way around. Dunno why they had to complicate this system without any explanation ingame rlly.

i think he meant silver 1 as in he placed gold 5 but after many comp updates he got put into silver 1

typo i guess?

they boost new players up into plat regardless and make long time players scrounge by inflating games played is all i’ve seen

tbf there is a giant popup that takes up the entire screen the first time you click comp and that you can revisit at any time by clicking on tier legend that explains exactly what the tier legends are: 5 (lowest) to 1(highest)

It doesn’t, actually…

the devs are still trying to figure this one out too. As the devs would say “Wait until next season!”
