Does pressing “jump” while swinging disconnect the ball from the line? Is it better to try and build momentum by swinging back and forth, or should I just keep swinging in one direction to build up momentum? I haven’t quite figured out how to best use this ability yet.
If you wanna ram someone: hook to a nearby wall, pick up speed, let go, and fly into your target.
If you wanna hook to a bridge and fly around it/circle a large poll or pillar: Remember that if your camera is at a certain angle, you will go in reverse when you press forward, and forward if you press backward.
Unless there are nearby bridges to swing around or pillars to orbit, the grappling hook should be used as a way to pick up speed and smash into people.
I don’t think jump or any other commands work while you stay tethered (hold down RMB). You can tether for as long as you want until you build up enough momentum and have the right launch angle.
How you use the ability depends on what you want to do.
If you want to launch at a specific Hero or location, reach top speed on the ground first while moving in their general direction. Then, grapple onto something above yourself that’s still roughly in your intended direction, briefly swing off the ground, and release the grapple before your momentum turns upwards instead of forwards. You’ll have to correct your direction a bit depending on how off-center your grapple target was.
For mobility, especially high ground access, you reach top speed on the ground while moving somewhat lateral to your intended destination. Then, you want to latch onto something directly between your position on the ground and your intended destination on the high ground. Stay latched on until you’re momentum is mostly upwards instead of forwards or backwards. Release here, and you’ll have enough height to drift to wherever you want.
Yes and it keeps screwing me up when I want to use it to go up.
Also remember Left Ctrl is ground pound.
1: Yes, you cannot jump as it will disconnect the line. What you want to do is just build up momentum with it.
2: the bind for it, since Hammond cannot crouch, is bound to whatever “crouch” is in the options, base being control probably, but I’d recommend going to hammond specific settings and changing it to Mouse4 or something.
