it’s going to sound like a complaint but it’s an actual query, last season i managed to just about push in plat, just did my placements and won 7/10 with a draw on another and i’ve been dropped down to mid gold, I’d get being a little lower but like 300 less over 2 losses seems off, what am i missing here? how do i climb if i get dropped so much between seasons

Skill Rating is a translated number the correlates to your hidden matchmaking rating. It is on a fixed 1-5000 scale (so that we can understand the number versus something like 0.412857663923) to help describe how good a player is based on their ability to win matches. Many factors go into your skill rating and the adjustments earned after every match but it is mostly focused on your overall win rate across your entire play history (seasons do not reset hidden MMR).
How much do you play Competitive? Like did you play hundreds of games last season, or only got through placement matches? If you have very few overall matches played in your entire Competitive history, this is going to be very normal because the game is not going to be certain you are consistently proving your skill. The more you play the more stable your skill rating will be. My recommendation is to keep playing matches after your placements.

Play more matches, win more matches. That will make you climb.
