so is ranked just based off W/L or is it more than that
i dont really have the best of luck my games usually go like getting absolutely demolished even if my team and i are doing everything right or its just everybody going off on their own and ignoring objective and complaining they are not getting healed
so my W/L ratio is really bad currently 4/6 i was G5 and now dropped to S2
Basically there’s a hidden number that goes up and down with every win or loss. In OW1 this number was visible at the end of the match; but in OW2 you never see it, instead it’s represented by skill tiers which only refresh after 5 wins or 15 losses.
It’s really unintuitive because certain things like enemy rank or your performance make that hidden number go up and down at different increments, it isn’t just +25 for a win or -25 for a loss…but what you see as a user is just 1 win.
So sometimes you can win 5 and lose 0 and not go up in rank because the game handed you 5 easy wins.
Sometimes you can win 5 and lose 6 and go up in rank because those 5 wins were harder and cancelled out the losses.
TL;DR: Like most things in this game, it’s needlessly convoluted and user unfriendly.
It is based off of your W/L ratio, and also where in elo your wins and losses occur. If you queue into a low ranked game and you’re two ranks above everyone else, winning that gives you only a little bit of sr, losing it loses you a lot of it.
It is harder for solo players and it always was/will be. OW2 comp having terrible game-to-game transparency so people can actually see their rank going up and down and try to understand the system is also a problem but I think it’s due to matchmaking which is due to the declining playerbase which is another issue with all modes and the entire game.
I solo queued literally hundreds to get my tank from low gold to masters (and well now I’m mid diamond after taking a month off, such is life), it took me 70 wins to get my dps from plat to diamond 1, and I think I’m around 50 in on my support which is still plat 3.
I am fully aware how difficult it can be and feel as a player. However if you are truly better than your rank, you will rank up. It may take a bit. But over time it will happen. My support is in plat 3 because I am not a diamond support yet, though as I play I will grind and refine my playstyle to reach that point. Etc, etc.
Oh the transparency is crap, I’m not denying that. I do not endorse the current system, but I’m a bit tired of hearing 90% of people in every rank going “I don’t deserve this rank, it’s my crap teammates holding me down.” People have off days, and sometimes perform worse, similarly they sometimes have great days and perform amazingly.
