How does one lose so much sr?

I see people here tell their stories about how they lost 500 sr in 2 days from throwers/smurfs etc. How do you lose that much though? The most I can remember losing in a short period of time is like 100 and something. But then I’d get it right back the next day. It’s hard to imagine anyone being that incredibly unlucky especially with the avoid player feature. Seems like their may be something the player is doing wrong? Just maybe…that might be a possibility instead of some Illuminati conspiracy where Jeff and the whole system has it out for you.

I saw someone who was like 2700-2800 down to 2200 or so. This was on an old alt that placed Gold when I first started playing 1tricking Soldier.

He started yelling into the mic about how we were all boosted because we didn’t have a star. I was like boosted to Gold? And he was yelling and saying how he lost so much SR due to bad teammates. Attack round we took first point and then he just trolled on sym making bad TPs even tho we had momentum.

Definitely not a play to win mentality lol.

I lost a lot before because I DCed and then I quit later in the day because I was pretty apathetic about my rank at that point.

I also lost over 200 in a few hours today.

I had 4 leavers in a row last week which resulted in 4 straight losses…thankfully i went on a big win streak right after.
Why keep playing after so many losses? I love playing this game. Rank is just a number with a symbol

I hit a career high in s9 of 2538, been in gold since s2. then s10 went on a season long losing streak & now im in mid silver. I go up, i go down but silver i stay.
I dont worry about it anymore cause thinking about it makes me want to throw my pc out a window.
So instead i just have fun in silver & play what i feel like on the day regardless of comp makeup.
I did try for s11 to get back to gold but couldnt do it so i gave up.

*I also only solo que so i guess that comes into it too.
Ive been told to climb you really need to group but i cbf

I never believe that either, until I came close to it last season, I think I lost about 350-400sr.

Here’s my mistake, I didn’t stop playing after 3 consecutive lost. I just kept on going, believing I’m not tilted, so it affected my performance.

Beside that, with hundred and thousand of players playing this game, it’s not surprising if there are a lot of people who have these weird streak of bad luck (where would they complain? - on the forum duh)

-thrower/deranker
-leaver
-several dps one trick in the same team
-2 people who begrudgingly picked tank, but refused to go main tank
-people who gave up after we lost the first point
-team argue after we lost the first point
etc

Since there are too many factors outside of skill that can either turn the round in your favor or the enemy favor. It’s tough luck if you keep meeting these factors on your own team.

I gained all my sr back in the next season, and I have a win streak of 5. I’m currently near my season high, but I always make sure to take a break after 3 loses in a row.

People get tilted and more tilted and you cant play when your tilted.

There’s another critical component to all of this. Time Of Day.

When college kids are in class… winning streaks out the ying yang. When college kids are at home… throwers and trolls every match, reported as chat abuse for not saying “Hi, I’m (streamer name) and I endorse this product,” and match is thrown. A six year old is on the team claiming “Meela” is their main tank. Three drunken idiots are belching into the microphone while jumping off cliffs. And So On.

When the adults play… everything is wavy gravy. Give this game a subscription fee of five bucks a month and KABOOM the trolls will vanish like the flowers on Bikini Atoll.

The game is built to steal your SR, so you have some reason to keep playing.

Blizzard is the master of the carrot-on-a-stick. The ONLY carrot in OW is your SR so… not hard to imagine that they handicap matches to make sure hot players are eventually knocked back down and have to re-gain their rank.

People think they lost due to stupid players on their team. Except it happens in a major, obvious, streaks all the time?

STREAKWATCH.

It has happen for me after a long break.
Also when you start losing you tilt stop to adapt and play bad which makes the problem worse.

Just my 2 cents, but if somebody loses as much as 400-500 or more, that is not bad luck anymore. I’ve got horrible luck myself in comp, but I never go below like 200 SR loss, and I always climb back and then some.

There are some important lessons I learned in comp:

  • if you’re having a bad day, STOP!
  • if you’re not feeling up to the task, STOP!
  • if you’re tilted/angry/upset/irritated, STOP!
  • try not to agitate teammates, even if you know you are in the right
  • be polite, even if your teammates are terribad and/or fools

Don’t get me wrong, the system is quite bad, but I’m highly skeptical that someone is that incredibly unlucky, not to mention these stories are so numerous.

If you can’t solo it, you don’t deserve it

Plot twist: THEY are the stupid player.

Last time I tried to THROW at your rank I ended with potg all golds 4 commendations and the enemy team QQing about me aimbotting lul.

Plot twist: I’m like super bad at this game and my aim is total crap

I dropped from 4300 to 3560 at some point. Took me weeks to get back up again. At some point, your hidden MMR is way higher than the average MMR on the SR you play. So in that case the system thinks you’ve to carry players. Trust me, its really frustrating.

This happened to me I think on my alt account. Ended up having to try to carry people who just straight up didn’t care. It was right after a 5 or so winstreak.

The only time you should lose 1000 SR is you are a new account that got woefully overplaced. That happened to be in my first season cause low and behold I was woefully overplaced.

The most i have lost since then was like 500 SR and that is basically full on tilt. Usually if I have a bad weekend and lose say 300 SR I go back in a day or so with a clear head and win like 5 in a row effortlessly which shouldn’t be shocking.

Losing 1000 SR I am sorry is intentional throwing. there is no bad luck to explain that. YOU ARE THROWING PERIOD.

Thanks! Can you please explain me why I should throw on my main account? Btw i’ve three accounts around 4.3 so I can’t be my skill, can it?

I like golds telling top 500 what’s what. It’s one of my favorite things on the forums.
