How does one climb Comp now?

So. I’ve been high platinum for about 4 seasons now. Why is it now that my win rate has suddenly plummeted to >50% constantly after the recent changes in the game? My skill has not suddenly vanished, but now I’ll climb a maximum of one game after playing 20+, or when I play around 15 or games a night i always end at a significant loss of SR? What did Blizzard do to the “fair” matchmaking if it’s suddenly forcing losses on me? I play at least 2 of every role at a low diamond level, yet never am able to even get a simple positive gain in any given gaming session.

Blizzard, please explain why this is happening? I can’t climb no matter what hero I play suddenly. I worked my way up from silver about 7 seasons ago and now your matchmaking is telling me my skills have literally gotten worse despite my hero stats rising. It’s not fun playing a game that I always lose at. I love Overwatch, especially the competitive game, yet the competitive community is either toxic or my higher SR is used to counterbalance a silver queuing with a platinum. How can you tell me this is fair matchmaking? I haven’t played against someone of my skill level in ages because my ranking is low due to crap teams I’ve gotten. It’s glaringly obvious that there’s no way to do anything but lose all the time now, and it’s frustrating.

TL;DR Blizzard’s matchmaking in Competitive has really gone to crap for some reason. I worked my way up the ranks and got to high plat, yet the game now punishes me for playing by constantly giving me poor matches. My skills did not suddenly drop from high platinum down to low gold on two accounts. It’s obvious that whenever I play now, I’ll lose more than I win at a significant margin as well. What fun is a game you never win at, and it’s not even due to your lack of skill?

Your top 2 most played heroes your record is Zen: 31-23 and Rein 22-16. This is great and climbing. Your next 2 most played is Moira: 6-13 and Zarya 4-13. This is basically throwing. Stop using heroes you’re bad at. That’s how you climb.

That’s only assuming I lose because I’m bad and not because my team isn’t working together or I’m forced into a role. You forget that it’s a team game and you can’t accel without teamwork. If I had a negative on Zen you’d say I’m bad on him even without looking at stats. Your assumptions bring nothing to the table other than avoiding the fact that the matter is that I still cannot climb even playing the heroes your assumptions says I’m good at.

You also assume that I don’t have a second account despite saying I do. I play rein on my account stuck in low gold and am I’m the negative wins with the same stats as this accounts.

You’re assuming you only lose because you have bad teams and it’s blizzard’s fault. You don’t take any accountability for your role in your SR. The fact of the matter is if you’re better than the level you’re playing at you will climb. You even admitted to climbing out of silver in your initial post and now you’re “stuck” in gold/platinum. Have you ever considered you are at the level you belong and can’t climb anymore until you get better? The difference between Diamond and Platinum is quite significant.

So you’re telling me I can’t hold high platinum on the same heroes I climbed with and have only improved on because I’m suddenly playing worse. And that my bad skill or my throwing is why I can’t hold 2750 ton 2900 suddenly, on those very same heroes I’ve only improved on. On two accounts playing those same heroes staying in the same SR range. That’s just calling me bad. If i had no game sense my Rein and Zen would be terrible. If I was actually bad at Zarya I wouldn’t have climbed with her Zen and Rein and held Plat several seasons ago. I’m placed with Plats queueing with silvers 5 times last night, all different groups. And you’re telling me it’s my fault?

Your tilted mate, trust me I am having the same issues as you on my alt account. I don’t know what has caused the tilt.

My advice which I am not following is.

  1. Trust your teammates and don’t try to solo carry.
  2. Long session are sub optimal for climbing.
  3. Play what you are comfortable on, no point playing McCree if you can’t play him etc.

What an interesting post. You mean it’s like you’re getting throwers and people playing so bad you can hardly believe it, over and over? Like some sort of… forced losing streak?

/shock

Yes.

Climb is not the same as peak. Just because you can climb on a hero doesnt mean you’ll always be better than your opponents. At some point, you’ll hit a rank where you can no longer stuff the competition.

Or its all a conspiracy against you. I’m sure Blizzard will respond to you shortly and apologize.

It’s not a forced losing streak they are tilted and forcing it upon themselves.

Tilting and being frustrated on this matter are two different things. If I was tilted I’d be raging and lashing out. I’m asking g rationally, how the heck can my skill suddenly drop, essentially a whole SR rank gap, after staying high platinum for 4 seasons consecutively and only improving at the game? On two accounts for that matter What suddenly changed that caused this.

How do you view player profiles if you’re on a phone?

OP: you’ve reached your skill ceiling , to get better , you must learn to utilize better strats, positioning, healing priorities, etc.

YenZatta, I already knew high Plat was my current ceiling. That doesn’t explain why Ive not fallen into low gold despite being able to maintain my high Plat in the past. I’m worried about why I can’t even return there due to the groupings I get and basically getting thrown in with people that aren’t at my skill level and dropping from it. I’ve been the top SR on my team by at least 50 around 80% of my games.

Seems like first you thought your ceiling was Diamond so you could climb there. But now it seems like you realize you misjudged your skill set and realized high plat was actually your ceiling. Ceiling is not the same as skill level. Your SR will fluctuate up and down in a given range. The midpoint of that range is your actual skill level, not the top.

That point used to be 2750 for several seasons on two separate accounts. That level suddenly dropped by 400. That’s not my skill level decreasing, that’s something else. I have not gotten worse per hero stats. I lose reasons outside of my ability to change the outcome of a match.

Maybe more and more bronze-gold are quitting this would skew the chart. If blizz puts 20 people into say for example 4 bronze 4 silver 4 gold 4 player 2 diamond 1 master 1 GM. This is not the correct skew I know. And you improve to diamond from plat but everyone undeenathnyou quits so only 4 out of the orginal 20 are left you become bronze. This is a poor example as I used no real stats but could explain some of it. In most games as they age the players who play less and are worse leave the game and you get pushed down.

idk dude maybe you’re just at the SR you belong?

Then explain my staying at a higher SR before this season for a significantly longer period of time before these issues, Mox?

Maybe you just got worse at the game? It happens. Of Your many many many posts on here today, not one suggests you’ve got any humility or self awareness. But hey, maybe it’s me. Maybe throwing internet tantrums at Blizzard and the community IS how to climb in 2018.
