just curious. had a game where i lost despite popping off.literally had to kill at least 4 people every fight or my team just auto dies. i know the game was unwinnable but im genuinely curious as to how mmr works since sr calculations are different now.
After Diamond performance-based SR no longer gets added/substracted from your SR. As to MMR, Blizzard hasn’t really delved too deep into how that is affected based on your tier.
I think it’s just +25 / -25 plus some tweaking based on teams avg SR and some other factors that shift each team’s “probability of winning” from 50%?
It’s more or less the same for each win or loss. The biggest range I’ve gotten so far is 20-30 SR.
Something to note here for comments I’m seeing: OP is not referring to SR, but MMR. As previously stated by Winks, Blizzard likes to keep hush-hush on the dynamics of MMR. My guess is that it would logically follow your SR gains, negative or positive, plus some bias in various selective fields.
Most likely he lost less MMR due to his performance.
yea i was referring to mmr. what i wanted to know specifically is that since sr gains and loses ±25, does the mmr go up and down at around the same rate? how does it affect the matches u get into?
MMR and SR are only appreciably different for accounts that have decayed. Performance doesn’t matter above diamond. I have a more complete description by googling “How Competitive Skill Rating Works (Season 8)” on the old forums.
Assuming your solo Q you’ll almost always go +25/-25 give or take 1 SR. Exception would be if your SR is much higher or lower than the games average SR (usually happens when in a group) you could get upwards of 29 or 30, as well as only getting about 21 or 22.
Oh ya if u decay a bunch you’ll get a lot of SR per win and very little for a loss until u get your rank back.
MMR details are not known. They’ve mentioned that it relies on how “certain” it is of the current value to determine how much it changes per win/loss, but overall Kaawumba is correct that it is generally similar to your SR. If your MMR outpaces your SR (you win many games in a row or have decayed) then you will notice increased SR gains and matches with higher SR averages, and the opposite if your MMR is much lower than your SR. At diamond and up the SR rewards are pretty much always very close to ±25
