That had to be on purpose for the same reasons I thought a transparent mech skin would be hilarious.
It’s a pose similar to a marathon cyclist - body forward, legs back, pretty much resting on her elbows.

Yeah, but for the support part. She’s got a harness that holds her up, so she’s isolated from the maneuvers the meka takes while it’s flying. It’s actually surprisingly well thought out for Blizzard, given that they usually handwave stuff with “it’s cool, shut up”.

She is actuallu standing. You see, several years ago, she lost her legs in the Omnic Board Game Night in order to not go bankrupt during an intense round of Monopoly. After this, Jetpack Cat and Mama Hong collaborated on producing synthetic, stretchy rubber legs for D.Va. While her arms simply go to the mech’s joysticks, the mech’s legs are actually D.Va’s.
Addendum: This same rubber-leg technology was produced for Pharah and Lúcio as well, and you can see it in-game from time to time.
