After losing so many games in a row and feeling nothing but anger and frustration, how does blizzard get me back to playing this damn game? Any other game I would have uninstalled but I always come back to this. Anyone else out there feel the same way?
Because all Blizzard games are imbued with some kind of ancient magic that slowly drains your soul until you spend all your money on cosmetics.
There are no Charming characters with cool design, amazing voice acting, stylist abilities, flashy ultimates and clean sounds in other games
Overwatch is like gambling. Sometimes you have bad games and sometimes you have good games. And when you have those good games the feelings so damn good you get addicted to it. And this addition makes you want to try and try again until you get good games because the feeling of victory, satisfaction, and domination makes you want to keep playing, forgetting all the bad games you had. Then you get stuck in an endless loop
It’s not really overwatch specific, it goes for all video games.
because it’s a fun game, frustrating because you do care but fun nonetheless.
it has similar charms to dota2 to me, but also some of the charms of an old school arena fps.
some of the creativeness and imaginative type of gameplay that doesn’t get too repetitive from dota but also some of the frustrations of that.
and the arena fps aspects being that it’s fast and adrenaline inducing and has a series of small wins that keeps you hooked.
Because we all have lizard brains that are really addicted to dopamine highs.
And when it comes to blizzard games they tend to have some really engaging moments that are brains want to really re-experience, matched only by the extreme lows that keep us from getting to use to the high moments.
You need to be able to have fun even when you’re not winning. I enjoy trying to improve my own play and I can do that even when I’m almost certain my team is going to lose. Some things are outside your control (people not in voice chat, throwers, leavers, etc.) but just know that the other team experiences those things as often as you do and that the next game will probably be different.
I mean, the only option on the market that comes remotely close to Overwatch style game-play is Paladins and it’s even more poorly handled and unloved.
So if you like the genre, OW is kinda the only game in town and no company that could contend with Blizzard, is likely to bother any time soon.
I will never buy a lootbox, but this^^
It feels like such an achievement when you grind out a close game. When the team works together and you pull that victory out of the bag, especially an unexpected one, it gives you a real high which is shared with the rest of your team. Everyone is ecstatic for a few seconds then just relieved and weary. Sadly to win, you got to be playing A LOT, really zoning in on the game. It is difficult to string lots of wins together playing casually a couple of sessions a month.
The sad thing is that it is probably bad for us because it requires too much dedication to climb. I’m not talking about climbing when you’ve just started but later after hundreds and hundreds of hours of the game, when the matchmaker has your stats down completely. It knows your weaknesses and will keep you at 50%. This is so insulting that it becomes addictive trying to prove the matchmaker wrong. So you play loads and rise and fall in SR. Then give up but return for the high. Then give up again.
Because the idea of having a good time in this game is more overpowering than saving yourself from a couple of tedious games.
When Overwatch is good, it’s really good and really satisfying, and it’s that aspect of it that brings us all back even if it doesn’t match the real experience.
Can’t say I have. Multiple frustrations stem from their questionable nerfs, leading you to get frustrated in game when a scenario happens where you would have 100% secured a hook/grab/ult if it weren’t nerfed.
Since this has happened to all my favorite heroes, I have little reason to play Overwatch as much as I did 3 years ago. I want to play it more, but each balance patch just makes tanks feel worse
Because ideally, even if you lose a game, it should always feel “winnable”
Since the heart of game design is making a task that’s not too easy, and not too difficult.
because other good companys dont have a game like ow. they have only battle royal and cs styles
Stockholm syndrome.

I find it’s the mechanics mostly, the game is fun to play but the constant loss streaks can kill any amount of fun you’re having.
This is the only blizz game I’ve ever enjoyed aside from Diablo 2, and I’ve never spent a dime on cosmetics.
Their reputation is honestly unwarranted.
I dont mind losing when its a good fight, with frenetic battles etc. Its just the total one sided blowouts that reduce my morale. Most of the time after 5 or 6 losses in a row, I rage quit. But like other people that mentioned it, when there is a good game it really is a lot of fun. I guess I keep looking for that high.
The same thing that keeps people gambling even though they lose money. You’re not playing because it’s enjoyable, but because you’re low key addicted.
