So I am trapped in bronze 5 dealing with teammate that don’t plan, play cover , play line of sight, or even objective. Despite all this I managed to go 5 wins 2 loses which is a 71% win rate. So please enlighten me almighty game devs how is that not worth at least bronze 4. Like Jesus you wonder why no one plays ranked it’s because this win loss ratio system is so bugged. Every other game that has a ranked system already has their ranked system figured out. They us a TP system. The system is super simple. Your rank determines how much TP you risk per match. The ways to earn the TP back very. Winning obviously plays a big part in that however you can earn more based on kills, damage, mitigation, healing, assists, and seeing as how you have a working play of the game system you can also determine play values which means you could give some for that too. This is just my suggestion coming from someone who does play in a lot of different ranked systems, and seeing what works and doesn’t. Take my advice or don’t. All I know is that if you continue the way you are going ranked is going to be dead in overwatch 2.
So it could be bugged, Probably isnt though.
The ranked system still works off SR which you cant see anymore (EX: Gold 5 = 2000 SR)
Most ranks in the game requires 500 SR to get out of (EX: plat - 2500 to diamond 3000 is 500 SR)
Each rank works this way except GM and bronze. Bronze 5 would start at 500 while bronze 2 starts roughly at 1k sr meaning you need up to 5 times to wins to climb out of bronze 5 as you would in any other rank in the game.
If that is confusing ask more questions for clarification if you need. I’m not very good at explaining stuff.
sure thing,
understand that bronze 5 consists of essentially an SR range of 0-999. with bronze 4 starting at 1000sr.
so going 5-2 during an adjustment phase is good progress, you should also have been given a % of where you stand to other players within that specific rank and division. if that % is lower, you are on low end of bronze 5, if it lets say at 70% then you are getting closer to bronze 4 than staying in bronze 5.
hope this help. continue to climb!
Can you post a replay code of a winning game?
What’s your kd ratio?
What’s your apm like?
I think system measures your stats and decides where to rank you. Is why some people rank up on negative win rates.
I’m not even talking about getting out of bronze I mean that i’m not even getting bronze 4 even thought my past two rank placement ratios were 5 wins 2 losses and my more recent one of 5 wins 1 loss still bronze 5. I’m not progressing in bronze. I not even saying I deserve to be out of bronze but by god I shouldn’t be at the bottom that’s my issue. I need you to address that.
Im not talking about getting out of bronze I was talking about getting out of bronze 5.
Ok to give an example, you need about 100 sr to go from gold 5 to gold 4
Bronze 5 to bronze 4 is different because instead of bronze 5 starting at 1000 Sr it starts at 500 Sr.
To go from bronze 5 to bronze 4 it would take 600 SR.
So effectively 6X longer than getting to any other division.
Hope that cleared things up.
I got to bronze 1 this season and then it sent me back to bronze 5. I’d not worry about it. Rank means nothing. I was in silver in S2.
Need more details.
How far away are you from bronze 4? How many wins do you have? You might not climb after 5 wins, you might need more.
Also, bronze 5 is deep. The lower you got, the longer it’ll take to climb out.
^Link to another thread I think will answer your question.
I think a lot of bronze 5 players are having this issue… I’ve given my 2 cents on the problem and I think you can find your answer here if you scroll down and read my novel.
If you want some actual help/advice in game you can PM me if you want.

How do you see how far you are from your next rank ?
in ow2, you don’t. but what he means is literally ALL other ranks bronze 4 and up encompass 100 points of SR. (Example: Bronze 4, 3, 2, 1, silver 5, 4, 3, 2 1,… etc) theoretically if you played 5 exactly equal matches (as in both teams perfectly balanced) you’d gain or lose about 20 SR per game, hence 5 wins would average a rank up, or rank down. (in unbalanced games, like say other team is on avg 300-500 SR better than your team, but you still win, you’d obviously gain lots more SR for that win, or lose far less SR if you lost)
Bronze 5 is the exception. Thats EVERYTHING below 1100 SR. So if you have 500 SR (the lowest I’ve ever even heard of from OW1) you would need to win something like 20 to 30 games before you ever see bronze 4 because you need to gain not 100 SR like any other rank, but up to 600 SR. And thats 20-30 games in a row. Odds are you will do something like 50 games before you ever see a rank up if you are at 60-70% win rate if you started at such a low SR.
EDIT: an afterthought I had. You could probably estimate how far into bronze 5 you are with the new feature they added “you are X% better than other players in your rank”…
So if it said you are 10% better then I’d imagine that means your probably deep in bronze 5 like 600 SR (bad), but if you were “better than 90% of people in your rank” i’d think that means you’re around 900-1000 SR and close to finally hitting the 1100+ needed for bronze 4. Of course blizz could just stop being ridiculous and just show the damn SR number but that would be too triggering or something idk.
You win 5 games and when it updates your rank, it tells you how far you are from the next rank.
Bronze 5 spans a huge range moreso than any other rank, so if you’re deep in it it’s going to take a while to get out. I can understand it probably feels frustrating if you watch streamers in higher ranks and their rank changes much easier, but if you keep playing and winning you will get out.
A few reasons why one player might go up after 5 wins 2 losses, and another go down also for 5 wins 2 losses.
Suppose player A had unlucky matchmaking and got 2 better teams, while they lost they didn’t lose as much SR, because the matchmaker knew they were up against a better team. Meanwhile player B also lost twice but in their case it was just bad luck while playing against a worse team. They lose more because they were expected to win.
Similarly you gain less SR if you were the most likely winner, than you would gain if you were the underdog
As for tips on how to raise the ranks? Learn the maps, what choke points they have, what highground, cover (very important), all medpack locations. Learn your hero abilities and cooldowns, those of your opponents. Learn when to be aggressive, and when you should fall back. When to flank, and when to stick to your team. Positioning etc etc.
Hero selection too, but don’t fall for the idea that you can pick X hero and gain ranks. There’s always counterpicks and synergies to keep in mind.
work my A$$ off to get to silver, 1 rank at a time. get 1 bad losing streak cuz of matchmaker and I drop 3 spots back into bronze.
That shouldnt happen.
it happens all the time to everyone. I have experienced climbing from bronze into silver, where I got stomped till I learned how to adjust my play to be in that rank.,… Same thing happened in gold. Same thing happened in plat. Same thing happened in diamond. Same thing happens now when I get matched into master games.
As your rank goes up and you get placed into higher games you can’t seriously expect yourself to instantly adjust and be as good as players who have been playing that rank longer than you.
Can we though? The last 6 rank evaluations have told me bronze 5 71%. I usually climb out of bronze 5 very quickly(1-2 rank valuations). That number should vary, shouldn’t it? I’m wondering if it’s bugged. It put me in b5 from b1 after a series of 5 wins out of 9. Before whatever changed, I was getting 5-0,5-1, or 5-2. I think the queue times changed resulting in imbalanced games. Now it’s a lot of 5-4 up to 5-6. I can’t get consistency to rank up.
If you’re actively playing rank to climb, rank is legitimately and quite literally what matters the most.
My friend plays Overwatch and gets to platinum, while I’m in silver. We played the same games together, and I don’t know what the heck he’s doing that gives him platinum. He’s good, but not like unbelievably good. I get more kills/assists whatever than he does sometimes. Whatever he’s doing, the Overwatch ranking system likes it… good for him
If you got into a rank, you supposedly should be good enough for that rank… if you trust the ranking system
