How do you win on rialto?

hey all, i am a plat tank main and i was wondering how do you play on rialto? i can never seem to win either attacking or defending due to how tight and confined the map is. i have no idea how to play around this map. any advice is appreciated, i hate this map.

Play corners like usual. Let attackers take the first bridge and hold them on the street that leads to open area.

On second point take highground for all cost and abuse it. Attackers have to walk into you in fully open space which your long ranged hitscans can abuse

On attacking side just constantly shift between going main street or the building

I find that completing the objective works best.

my biggest issue on attacking is the first push out of spawn. how do we push beyond that point? i always seem to just die or lose shield/mech extremely fast and my team staggers.

You mean bridge just outside of spawn?

yeah that push and making it beyond the first checkpoint is my biggest problem, by the time we make it past spawn we have little to no time. as a tank what should i do in such tight spaces when the team focuses me down hard?

I mean, usual tank stuff. Poke at people, preserve resource by hiding behind payload, use building as cover to regain hp and push in. If you are Hog go flank and kill someone, if you are frontliner like Rein/Orisa just stay on cart, farm ult and GG ez

outside of farming ult, yeah i try to create space or picks so we can push. it seems like my whole team struggles every time too i dont think i have won a single game on rialto since its been added. this map is really hard for me for some reason. even on defending i feel like i just get obliterated. its a me issue and im not sure what i need to do.

Imo Rialto isn’t really a challenging tank map, usual strategies work well. You can dive backline from highground as Winston, you can speedboost into people with Rein Lucio, you can flank on Hog… really nothing special about this map

Have you tried watching the replay to see what the winning tank is doing - that might help get an idea of a winning strategy.

(Or maybe reveal that the a good dps or support makes a huge difference on that map).

yeah i bet its fine for most people, i just suck really bad on rialto.

Probably watching streamers play it should reveal all tricks on this map

yeah, especially with shields i try and see how they play around the bridge. i just have not had the same success and im not sure what im doing differently. i will do further digging and watch high level vods.

tempo and highground control goes a long way on rialto

tempo meaning, after a fight win, you quickly take space and hold them further ahead of the cart. on point a this is at the bridge and on point b this is around the choke leading to 3rd. this will give you much more room to work with and alleviate the cramped feeling of being forced to take fights in the narrower sections, it also gives you a much stronger advantage if you get 2-3 to push with you while a ranged char or someone with mobility stays with payload

highground control is import on both atk & defense, deny space from enemy dps. on point a, make sure nobody’s able to do silly things from the balconies you walk under, towards the end of 1st it’s making sure people don’t sit on hg above the capture point, and in 2nd it’s making sure the 2nd floor buildings are clear as your team pushes through. usually this means not walking with cart, and in high elo you will notice most of the times the teams end up fighting inside of the building 2nd floor for this reason. point a, you can usually justify not pathing highground and just spam out whoever is up there if your tank has range, but if you play rein or they have healing, you might have to just walk highground and bulldoze them off

as soon as you lose tempo and highground control, rialto becomes a huge uphill battle, especially 2nd point. a lot of teams completely stall and get held for minutes on end if they fail to snowball 2nd.

third point, just stack ults and hope for the best lol

thank you for this, gonna take all this info into my next game

Mobility. Dva or Winston. Use your mobility to take high ground PAST the death bridge. I usually prefer to take high right because you can duck inside the door there for cover or threaten backline down the stairs. Clear snipers or long range hitscan from the high ground or use barrier/matrix to allow your team out.

When red team pulls back down street, you can drop to threaten or block if you need to. But SECURE the balcony that overlooks the square AT ALL COSTS.

Square is harder. But you have good angles from balcony to avoid damage and dive anything on the low ground. You might have to go around back to reach the high ground over the checkpoint. Or you could swap to something more defensive/rush if you prefer.

New players I think are struggling to learn rialto so I think if you end up with alot of newbies and the enemy have an experienced booper it’s gg
I play pharah so… I’ve just been knocking everyone off the bridge and they don’t get to the first point every time im on rialto.
Stand in the middle of the bridge when crossing and use your movement to resist the boop ability coming at you or someone will boop you off.
As dva pick your moment and get past the bridge onto the high ground if unnoccupied or under them where the mini is if they are up there. Then get all your abilities and go for a kill/distraction so your team can push.
For the squeeze leading to the open area before the first point if they hold you hard there go left through the building and hold the megahealth pack area then capture the highground above the arch for your dps. Basically change where the fight happens so you aren’t squeezed.
