How do you keep your hands from getting cold?

My hands are almost always cold. Even if it’s hot outside and I am overall warm (shorts, shirts, etc.), my hands are still cold. And I have trouble playing games, let alone FPS games, when my hands are cold because they also become stiffer.

Does anyone else have this problem in general? How do you keep your hands warm? I would consider wearing gloves or mittens but then that restricts my mobility in my hands (and then ironically, my hands get too warm). And if you do have this issue, how do you manage playing games with stiff hands?

Bodies are weird. :sob:

Clearing up a few things:

  • I do not have any underlying medical conditions, I get regular bloodwork and tests done.
  • I do not have an iron deficiency or any other underlying symptoms. It’s just my hands.
  • I am not skinny (just at a good weight) but I did lose 30 pounds recently so my body’s insulation has shifted.
  • I exercise for 90+ minutes daily at the gym. I am active/fit.
  • I’m mainly looking for suggestions to warm my hands up, like a handwarmer or something that others can say has worked for them!

There’s just some days when my hands are cold and I can’t even play but most of the time they stay warm, maybe a heater could help you

Exercise before you play Overwatch

Summer is over and I still have my air conditioner hooked up with my fan running too, I think I forgot what cold is.

I thought about that, but the rest of my body runs warm. :sob:

I do, I go to the gym after work and then come home, cook dinner, chill out and play OW after. :frowning: Should I be doing it, like, right before?

That used to be me. I lost weight over the past 8 months and I think my body’s insulation is gone :sob:

I never play Overwatch without my mittens. But seriously, there are a number of medical reasons why this might happen. Are you on the thinner side?

Is it cold where you live? That only helps me when it’s warmish. During the winter I play with gloves on sometimes, it takes a bit used to but helps.

Fingerless gloves may be worth a try since I think they still keep your fingers warm, but I’ve never tried using them.

A lot of different things can cause this, its usually related to circulation but can be other things too.

Its kind of hard to diagnose becasue a lot of different things can cause circulation issues too. Could be low iron or red blood cell count which is anemia. Can be related to smoking, medication and more

I found out i was anemic a few months ago and after some red tape got blood transfusions and felt better.

I have this happen now-and-then. I’m no doctor, but my armchair MD tells me it might be because of poor circulation. When it happens to me I usually take a break to breath, shake my hands out, and stretch my legs for a minute. Maybe also take the opportunity to refill my drink or use the bathroom—after which I wash my hands with VERY warm water, just to cover my bases. But usually once I’ve reset like so, my extremities are no longer chilled, and I can get back to whatever I was doing.

My sibling has cold hands, always. Even during heatwaves.

Try a mug of warm water (or an actual beverage if you intend to drink it) and warm your hands on that when you wait to respawn.
A hot water bottle type item might be good.
That way you have free hand movement but can warn your hands between rounds and stuff.

I don’t suffer from this, my hands rarely get so chilly that i feel it impacting my gaming…

I have the exact same problem it’s very unfortunate solution is to get blood flow in your body by doing exercise and it will temporarily make your hands warm!

Also use a hair dryer to warm them up but it can rack up the electricity bill!

I rub my hands together like Mr. Burns (it’s in the name) and then I exhale on them. That usually warms them right up!

This may not be totally suitable depending on your environment. I’m someone who is just perpetually cold and I like it warmer than most people, so I have a little 500W space heater on my desk that i use both as a way to stay warm and heat my hands when they’re chilly. It may not work well if you are in a room that can heat up a lot, though.

That said, my very naive understanding is that you really just need to improve circulation to your hands – stand up, take more breaks, move around a bunch.

Tough call sounds like you got that circulation issue, My finger nails go blue purple even when i feel warm. Outstide of heater packs, hodlin some hot tea or coffee you could try. Shoulder mobility routines if you have some impingement somewhere. Diet was part of my issue as well, upped red meat and cut sugar.

I live in the tropical part of Australia so it never gets that cold around here, even during winter. Our issue we experience is rather the opposite, constant sweaty hands from all the heat and humidity

Not really. I did lost 30 pounds over the course of the last 10 months. :frowning: And I do go get regular check-ups, I think i just have poor blood circulation.

It isn’t, but it’s also not as warm as usual. I’m in California and it’s hovering around the 70’s. I’m definitely not cold when it’s 100+ outside lol

Ohhh I’ll try that. I do love the feeling of holding a hot cup of tea so maybe I can do both.

Exercise with push ups, resistance bands, or weights. That will warm you up for sure

I use my partner to get warm, lol.

Are you anemic? Had a girlfriend once who had that going on and she had ice cold hands/feet all the time. Sometimes useful but generally problematic. She had to take meds for circulation issues.
