Yeah this is basically a rant. Sorry if that aint your thing but not like there’s anywhere else to air my grievances
I dunno maybe Im just forever burnt out on the game or maybe Im just too casual for it but no matter what I do to try and have fun with OW like I did back in the early months/years, I just cant
Ranked is a cesspit of smurfs and toxicity. Id rather not get screamed at for not being a GM in a silver game by someone on their 17th account. Especially in solo q ranked is just unpleasant to play even for one game. Not to mention the longer games taking a longer time commitment.
Quickplay is pretty much the same except the smurfs dont bother cuz the game puts silvers and GM in the same games anyway. Basically just comes down to which side the matchmaker picks.
Arcade at least I can avoid the MMR for teammates by going deathmatch but then I just get danced around by high rank tracer/genji/doom players that I have 0 chance against. At least QP classic is slightly less likely to have people screaming at you. Only slightly.
I dont even know what happened to just leech the fun out of the game. Maybe Im just a low level solo player in a game made for high level groups.

I hear people like to have fun in the wacky custom modes from the workshop. Have you tried any there?
Personally, I have no interest in any of those, but I have fun in deathmatch myself so I can cling to something.
Don’t be silver in OW2. You have time until they come. And when they come, then don’t say I didn’t tell you, and then don’t create another “smurfs are the issue, not my skill” topic. Learn to play or prepare the lube in advance. Playing low rank is not safe, and it is optional for smurfs.

Just don’t join voice tbh.
I used to talk in voice, but that wound up bringing a lot of unneeded toxicity from people, so I started just joining voice and not talking… and 90% of voice is just people passive aggressively complaining/blaming/flaming their team.
Find a tank friend who plays Monke/Rein. Duo with them. You pick Ana and only Ana. Queue QPC in arcade. Enjoy fun.
The game just feels fun at its core for me. I always come back from time to time and ignore the “dailies” in my other games just so that I can have fun for a few hours
I ignored it for months because things like Destiny 2 or even Genshin took my time and have better updates/reasons to invest time
Whenever I do come back to Overwatch though, it ends up being the only game I actually have “fun” in. Like matches are pretty much enjoyable and barely surviving or getting beaten after a close duel can leave me laughing. The abilities and characters all respond well compared to other games and most of them feel exciting to play in their own way
If all I did was play competitive then I suppose I’d get tired of it and leave again but that is because there are better games to invest that brain energy in (like destiny). If I’m going to try-hard then I’d rather do it there because the guns feel responsive and snappy, the devs address concerns on a weekly basis, the story gets updated more steadily and the raids bring peak team-play energy and creativity that I just can’t find in another game.
I only really play No Limits, FFA Deathmatch and custom games in OW1 these days. Those 3 things are what keeps me playing. I’m not interested in QP or competitive anymore. QP & comp have become very stale for me because there hasn’t been any new content update for those modes for 2 years.
But I’m addicted to OW2 beta right now. It’s the most fun I’ve had since OW1 launch I think.

I agree about ranked being too toxic. But I think you need to adjust your attitude about QP. There is skill based matchmaking, and the matchmaker isn’t forcing you to lose your games. Devote more energy to evaluating your own play and how you can have an impact on the match.
I’ve been having fun in MH lately after giving up competitive but, going back to OW after playing OW2 beta is making me sad. I can’t wait for the full OW2 release because it’s just such a better game.
OW1? I don’t, I play other games instead. ANYTHING but OW1 lol.
A big part of many issues (but particularly to the ones your getting at) is how many casual players are left?
In a game this old and with this troubled a past and lack of updates a lot of people ho play for a bit of fun will look elsewhere.
Those who still play are a mix of the grinders, the committed and the toxic. Yeah there are causals and play for fun guys, but we’re a diminishing number and proportion of the player base.
Don’t really have a good answer other than to tell you to get into OW2 beta.
I’ve basically given up on OW1.
More OW2 beta keys start dropping tomorrow by watching the Overwatch League.
That said, Roadhog isn’t doing too well in OW2. But Zarya and Orisa are really fun, and have a lot of skillset overlap with Roadhog.
Like if you are great at landing Hooks, then landing Orisa Javelins is gonna feel like home.
Sometimes matches are fun and enjoyable. Even if we lose, it can still be fun.
At least until the enemy picks soldier/echo/hanzo/pharah and/or my tanks decide they want to go hog into double sniper, double shield or go flank hog and feed 24/7 while our other tank languishes. I’m just so tired of the same 4 enemies and 9/10 matches being a hog main with an ego the size of Russia on my team 
Not exactly fun, but it’s a low resource game i can quickly start and then leave running in the background while i’m working.
I basically did a lot of the animation in that while waiting in queue. This is what it looks like while i’m “playing” overwatch.
If you can recommend another game that doesn’t bork your system when you alt-tab, i’ll try it.
TLDR: Overwatch is minesweeper
I dont. I log in when i miss the thrill, play one game. Play 1 game, probably win, Realize the win wasnt fun and that the game hasnt been fun since like season 12 or whatever. Play another match, yep not worth playing log off, repeat.
On the other hand ow2 is fun
I don’t. Every now and then I’ll play a match or two and be quickly reminded why I don’t play anymore.

Game needed a sr reset and some reworks to dps and tanks. And new maps. And new characters. We didnt need 3 years for getting a 5vs5 and balancing around it.
A simple sr reset would have been very good to the game. People would be on their elos on 1 month or so. Lvl 100 for competitive. We beg for this years and years and nothing.
Huge majority of people still play it because for a FPS its very forgiving…
Can’t aim well on DPS… go bastion and play stationary because its easier.
Can’t aim well. Go torb and put your turret up.
Wanna play tank and can’t aim… go winston.
So am I but it’s still fun. Don’t do comp, that’s just boring and stupid, QP also boring and stupid. Beta? Boring and stupid. Play QPC in OW1, ignore chat, ignore player borders, ignore metas, do your own thing and just vibe.
