There’s lore in OW? It’s a multiplayer only game. IMO, lore doesn’t exist in games without story modes.
In an OW2 interaction with Zen, Sigma claims to have “met” the Iris. Maybe he’s BSing but I think the Iris is real.
I understand that, but the mecahnic behind it doesnt seem to indicate they they were being controlled. They did do a 180, but it still stands that based on her in game kit they were more than likely empowered and not controlled. Obviously theres some embellishment in the cinematic like telporting multiple times, but i dont think quite as extreme as forcing others to fight.
Nanobot psychedelics?
I don’t really think there’s an issue with it. I mean, you look at various characters and think “science did that”? For example:
Reaper can teleport from point A to Point B, and go into a wraith form that makes him invulnerable to anything. Additionally, his guns suck the life force out of enemies to heal himself.
You have Mercy who can literally resurrect the dead with a waive of her hand, and Moira who also can wraith form to increase her mobility and become immune to the world.
You have Genji who can summon a Dragon Spirit onto his Sword and make it more powerful…
Whether they call it “Magic” or not, it has always existed in Overwatch.
Yeah, love the argument.
There’s not supposed to be magic!
Shimada Dragons.
Those are Tech!
How so?
They’re (Insert technobabble with no real basis in what tech is at or can approach).
Yeah, you’re right, that’s not magic…
at this point we can just assume it work the same way with the Shimada’s dragon. inspired by Chinese/Japanese mythos and different animals/creatures can do different things. and from the look of it the Hashimoto might have something to do with the Oni.
i wouldnt mind if Overwatch story went the same route with Guilty Gear, forget logic, just focus on putting the coolest ideas in the game, if people ask how or why just tell them its because Aaron Keller.
This ^. Changing Abracadabra to ‘hard light’ just makes it magic with a new term.
Something or the other.
It could be stimulating the old man and girl like some steroids: enhanced performance, but limited mental functions.
Either that, or it’s psychedelics on the Hoshimoto: making them see something terrifying that has physical applications (pain).
Hanzo and Genji both have magic. There are tons of voice lines in the game that talk about Zen and his healing ability, none of the healers or scientists know how it works. Literally all of Reaper. Moria wants to study him because she can’t figure out how he’s a demon now.
I don’t wanna call the OW story and Lore team incompetent but…they are prolly the worst lore team I’ve ever seen on a project. They can’t keep characters ages straight in their time line. Things are constantly retconed, hinted at or flat out mentioned then ignored. Stories are fully dropped out of nowhere (Remember Roadhog and Junkrat had ‘something’ that literally everyone wants…it’s been 7 years we don’t know what that thing is, Lucios whole backstory with Sym and a straight up revolution. What broke up OW in the first place. Reapers betrayal. Anything to do with Talon. Widows husband and backstory. None of it is explained in the slightest. But we got things like Tracer and 76 being gay…which is cool but can we find out what happened to both of them in the story?
They can say that even the dragons are some kind of tech but until they feel like explaining that in the game, some cinematic or comic it straight up dosn’t count. A tweet is not lore.
The lore team lost the ability to decide what is or isn’t allow to be in the lore of their game when they stopped making it themselves.
yea lol i found that strange as well. i mean it was cute but its almost like mind control or possession
Little girl does it under influence of Kiriko’s ult. Which we know buffs attack speed. So, I took it as effects of her ult that allow ordinary people to temporary get superhuman strength.
Yes, it does. The fact that Kiriko influenced a little girl’s mind to go batbleep insane and try to kill another human causes me to question the morality behind Kiriko and her ultimate ability.
Just because she didn’t kill someone doesn’t excuse the fact that she still literally attempted to and I find it deeply troubling that you would even attempt to defend this position.
“Subverting expectation” Is that always going to be the excuse for such idiotic choices made in storytelling? I’m not saying that helping the girl and the old man fight back is the problem, it’s the fact that she essentially turned them into murderous psychopaths with blatant disregard for human life.
I disagree. From what we know of the ult it only empowers the player or friendly person. It doesnt control them or force them to act. It may seem that way as they people were shown attacking instead of running away but there isnt evidence that their choice of action was removed.
It does though. At no point has blizzard shown a child kill another person in one of their shorts. It wouldnt be expected to come up here. Not only that, but clearly the Hashimoto were that bad guys in this instance, it might be morally grey, but they were just defending and driving out attackers that meant them harm. I dont think thats a bad thing. The world isnt black and white, moral and immoral. Morally grey better represents our real life, and more likely the situation that those people are put in everyday.
Blizzard made a storytelling choice using a common theme of subverting expectations to provide comedy or relief or what have you. Its entirely opinion whether it was idiotic or not. I thought it was great, as i definitely wasnt expecting a mini Huntress at the end there. It brought me some laughs. If it does come to light that the tori gate control, force, or coerce, people to do Kirikos biddingsure we can talk about the implications of morales and mind control. As it stand though, it simply appears to empower the people not force them to fight.
Lmao if you bought the “hard light” magic for Hanzo/Genji, why not just imagine it is “hard light” for Kiriko’s fox spirit. If they come up with a god of the gaps argument for most of the tools in the game, then it’s magic, and it’s been there since launch.
The 7 year old did that by herself… Kiriko just buffed her
So you’re saying that Blizzard wrote a deaf little girl who was always a murderous psychopath? Wow.
If the Dragons are not, and Trance isn’t, then Kiriko’s powers are not either.
Because her aim was bad? Because she was like… 7?
Personally I think it is very true to the overwatch universe. I can use Kiriko’s ult, and my team mates can manage not to kill people either.
so it’s not magic but it looks like magic and has no explanation…
if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s probably a duck.
The dragons existing was not an inherent confirmation of magic because they could have very easily been explained through science. But in Kiriko’s case, they have gone into more depth about her abilities making it very clear that there is some sort of supernatural business going on.
Not how it works. We’ve got heroes that can teleport and turn invisible, and yet that’s not magic.
