How do you define a smurf?

I am legit so confused by this community’s definition of a smurf.
I was playing support normally playing lucio. (I should note that I had 3 people with levels ranging from 30 to 60 on my team and they are plat btw). We basically ran dive. We were rolling the enemy, I was popping off, I was bullying their supports (mostly their ana that kept switching back and forth from ana to mercy). The enemy got tiled and the enemy kept yelling in match chat pathetic smurfs.
note they said it in plural form so i was like ok he meant the three stack probably they were popping off alot.
at end of match the ana said your lucio smurf is obnoxious. He meant me XDDD
I am sorry HOW AM I SMURFING?
I am level 1052 for petesake
he then said you are 2700 (thats on tank btw support is 2503 now) and then I said I am level 1052 how am I the one smurfing?
the ana then said I threw to get to a lower rank (which i did not I am struggling gold who just made back to plat on support)
So this got me curious
What is your definition of a smurf?
my definition is someone who is like a rank higher (like the full 500 sr and more) and a really low level in a rank s/he doesnt belong in.
ex: someone who is rank is 3700 and is playing in 3100
What is your definiton of it?

why did this post get 49 replies?..

Small blue person (3 apples tall) in a 80s cartoon who went up against Gargamel . They were named for their personality except for Papa Smurf the leader and Smurfette the only female Smurf.
Side note : Smurfette was actually made by Gargamel for the purpose of destroying the Smurfs.

Probably the opposite of smurfing. If I saw that you were level 1052 and only 2500 in elo I would think you were trolling.

A smurf IS someone who intentionally throws to stay at low rank to dominate games they dont belong in

A smurf ISNT someone who buys a new account and is really good at level 1. The matchmaker sorts you out very quickly for this

Anyone way our of their regular Sr range. Be it by buying a new account or throwing.

Someone who intentionally plays below his/her skill level.

Yes, this includes high rank players buying a new account. They bypass the matchmaker to get matched in ranks they don’t belong.

Look up my xbl account “lord darrington” on overbuff.

Now look up “lord doubleton.” That’s my “high plat alt” aka smurf. You’ll see the similarities in stats despite the Sr and prestige difference.

This is the only way I can define it, but on xbl we have smurfs ranging up to 3 bronze stars.

A high-level player using a secondary account to destroy bronze players for some kind of sick satisfaction.

Why someone should excuse for being better at the game and having options to show it anywhere he wants? Head up, and say yes I have 1000 lvls of smurfing, and you are still bad at the game 4head!

This feels less like a question and more like a brag that you got called a smurf even thought you aren’t (quote for example)

Not really, unless they throw games.

A low-level account (indicating that they have made a new account) who is residing in a rank that does not reflect their main sr. Meaning a level 50 in gold whilst his main is in GM.

I’d say a smurf is someone who has through intentional means gotten into games in a skill bracket well below their actual ability.
This would normally come though new accounts, buying used accounts, or throwing games in order for their internal MMR to be lowered. Though I suspect that there may be other ways, I just don’t know how all it could be done.

Deliberately throwing to keep playing below your true skill level.

I meant to write something like that as well, but your post was way better than anything I would have ever produced. Thumbs up!

I hate this but I also love this smh

I got accused as a smurf too once as Mercy XD. I never die once against their team, and how can I not? They like run Reaper, Tracer and Winston and we were in hanamura.

Also, smurf can be considered by someone having an alt account. It varies for people though, intentionally throwing is the most common form the community perceives as smurfs.

I am bad at the game. XD
Also really if I wanted to, I would put all my attention to support but I dont.

you could say its both. but really I typed this right after match by like 10 mins or so. I was legitmately confused because the guy who is 4 star bronze border plat is calling someone with a 4 star silver border plat a smurf :V
ya see where I am going at?
