How do you counter deathball?

Recently, me and my friend have been playing loads of competitive, and it has been great. I climbed back out of gold from 2361 to 2761, and we’ve both been enjoying loads. I’m a Reinhardt/Reaper main, but these last few weeks in particular I’ve found myself struggling way more in finding success with reaper. After our 300sr winstreak ended, we kind of got stuck in where we are now, due to mostly deathball.

So basically, every single match we play we’ve been fighting deathball. In season 10, it was my goal to play a lot of reaper, as I’ve been playing Rein in comp since season 5 now. Playing reaper worked out great, until we hit the rank that we’re at now. Every time I flank and try to pick off a healer or the Reinhardt, the entire team just swarms me and I instantly get slept/stunned/charged without even being able to wraith in time. Because of this struggle with Reaper, I’ve been forced to play Rein constantly again.

So to sum up, I would like to ask you guys how you effectively counter deathball meta, as I’ve been having a really hard time countering it with Reaper. Reinhardt has not really been the most fun to play in this meta either, so I would really like to find out how to deal with this meta as effectively as possible.

Thanks in advance

Not with Reaper, basically. Go with Pharah or Hanzo, or run a Deathball of your own and protect your Rein with Reaper, instead of flanking.

Thanks for the reply, i’ll think about maybe picking up zarya as a third main, and letting my friend play rein instead. Deathball is such an annoying meta.

As was said, Pharah and Hanzo are generally two very good picks right now. Mostly because of high damage and long range. In the current meta close quarters combat against a comp like that will usually end up with a loss for the overall weaker comp.

You unholy abomination. I love it

Basically the awareness of the players have went up and they can actually hear your footsteps, a lot of people have their volumes up fairly high so that they can hear it and believe it or not they’ll be able to tell that it’s you coming before you’re there (not all the time, plat isn’t THAT good :stuck_out_tongue: ). Not all the time but if you really want to play this style of ima flank ma heart out then you have to be confident that you’re going to land 2 headshots on whoever.
That being said you could also go with a more defensive playstyle basically just staying with your team but hitting the enemy tanks and trying not to move up too far.
I’m not a reaper main but if you want to show me a game or something that you’ve played I can take my time, I can also get some friends to help.
You could just be going from the wrong angle or maybe simply you’ve reached the extent of this playstyle in the brig CC season.

Thanks for wanting to help! I’ll keep what you said in mind, but I think I’ll finish up this season now. I’m pretty happy with my rank right now, and besides, I don’t really have a lot of time left to play this season. I’m just going to wait and see if season 11 is going to be any better for rein/reap.
