I’m finding it so hard to climb as support, when it is not the suicidal rein it is tanks that don’t want to pick a f*** shield or dps won’t counter. I’m a main tank and i can carry as a sigma when the team is not helping, but as support i feel like there is only so much i can do. How do you do it?
There’s a Cassidy somewhere willing to pay a pocket mercy.
The only thing I can think of is going Lucio and spamming jump against a wall.
probably depends on the support your playing. maybe some are easier than others? still tho a support is always about supporting moreso your teammates to kill stuff instead of you doing it. just hope your teammates are good lol. probably harder for solo queuing unless you go into the group finder and find some good dps dudes or smurfs or whatever
Ana and Bap are the best two supports to rank up with because they are the best two supports at covering up dumb mistakes.
Focus on utility and damage, gold healing is for gold rank, silver healing is for champions.
I used to be a mid diamond flex player for a while, then I took a LOOONG break. So when I came back I was kind of stuck in gold for a while because I kept trying to heal to make up for their mistakes.
Some mistakes you can’t heal, and learning to be proactive when your teammates aren’t going to live instead of trying to pump healing into someone you can’t save will help. Things like going for aggro windows as bapt, getting good antis as Anna, pulling out your pistol and killing everyone as mercy /s etc.
You can’t heal dead people, but you can make use of the distraction they’re making.
In any case, just playing properly, even if you don’t make a lot of good plays will let you climb in the end, it’ll just take longer and result in frustrating games.
This isnt an issue. If you don’t understand how to play without a shield babysitting you, you shouldn’t be and probably won’t climb. Work on learning better positioning. If you’re gonna play low mobility supports your positioning and use of map cover is key. High mobility supports are generally easier to play with no shield.
Anything below mid plat you need to be carrying yourself so play heroes like lucio on boop maps, zen, bap. Noobies will rage cause “LoW hEaLs” but if you are good with them you will have a positive win rate and move up. Ana can also be really good in low ranks cause there’s so many hog one tricks and you can just sleep, tea bag, nade repeat. Mid plat is imo where team mates become more capable and you can start playing supports that are more enabling for dps and tanks if you choose to.
Play Ana, Bap or Zen
I found my best successes in doing the following:
- Maximize on your own positioning, play around corners/take cover
- Communicate what you need - if you need your teammate to pull back to heal or come back in LoS, or that you need your Rein to keep his shield up, or a Zarya to bubble you, communicate it
- Call out targets that are low or that your team should prioritize
Other than that, the power of prayers
because you can only do so much as a support lol
Duo with a main tank player.
Stack with people one rank above you.
I feel this a lot, I do. Solo-queuing is the bane of most Support players (I’m a Mercy main…need I say more?). I’d suggest finding a friend who plays DPS or Tank so you can always rely on having at least one good player on your team.
I wouldn’t suggest ever solo queueing as support until Diamond
As a support that climbed from silver to diamond before I stopped playing ranked and have improved alot since then … learn to support.
Dont have a shield tank no problem that’s fast ult for you. Dps not countering pharah, go ana bap and make those skies yours. No peel learn to play cover and know when your heals are feeding ult charge vs turning a duel. Team are feeders that explode when not in the pocket, find the one or two that do play for things like clock on defense and prioritize resources there. When you lose, figure out where and when you could have made plays to turn the fight.
If none of the above works tilt on your team and come to the forums to post about how this game is dead ;p
think of the support roles as support and not healers try to balance your healing and your utility/dmg thats the main reason gold supports have more healing than most gms
HAHAHA, funny. its funny you think lucio is easy to climb on. ITS FUNNY
Not even then. Diamond solo-queuing as Support was one of the worst experiences in my years of playing Overwatch.
Something to do with getting Platinum Tanks on my team…
Facts from my research have stated that out of the 3 roles to be climbing with, Supports is by far the most difficult. It becomes much easier as u get to higher ranks, but in the lesser end, it is not ez. So, if ur climbing with Supports, my recommendation: Grab a buddy, or pal, or somethin or some1, so that then u won’t have a struggling time climbing up those ranks. Some players can play Support solo and carry and win games, but some cannot climb unless they grab a partner beside em.
if you feel like your team isnt carrying you, you should carry yourself. If you know ur team isnt the most competent, stay away from mercy at all costs. You can apply pressure and still heal your team with picks like Ana and baptise.
