How do you actually nerf hitscan?

i see this statement uttered a LOT but no one ever actually suggests a way on how to do it

None of you are ready for it. What it boils down to is they need to be completely helpless at close range just like Junk/Sym are at long or lose an enormous amount of their mid range lethality.

But you’d all cry.

When the midrange heroes are lethal at midrange

That’s ok if they don’t get to stand a chance at close range just like Junk and Sym get to a d spam and die at long :+1:

They need real weaknesses.

and what about reaper or Tracer?

Reaper is pretty helpless at long to mid range. Try playing him on Circuit or Havana.

Tracer is Tracer and needs an entire discussion just for her problems.

She aint even that hard with 175hp and fat bullets anymore

It’s not really about difficulty and more her design being very problematic to balance without breaking the hero. She’s not the same problem as ranged hitscans.

The big options I see are:

  • No increased bullet size for Hitscans, put each one back to s8
  • Lower damage to offset weapon consistency
  • Lower firerate to offset weapon consistency
  • (Re) Introduce spread/weapon kick
  • Near universal projectile speed up

was that a rhetorical question? cause theres plenty of ways…like aside from just lowering the damage:

  • smaller projectiles
  • spread
  • firing rate
  • hit box size
  • ammo count
  • hp changes
  • fall off
  • randomness
  • ability to crit
  • remove favor the shooter

that just off top of head…im sure there are plenty more options

Nope not good enough

Just lower the damage on a few of them and slower the fire rate on others. Its not that hard

Much of the advantage hitscan offers is because mobility is very powerful in overwatch. Nearly every character has some level of mobility to abuse and rapidly having the ability to swap between targets is very handy for keeping up with that mobility.

If heroes were slower, then projectile prediction would not be as hard and the advantage between the two would lower. The other option is simply remove hitscan all together and simply have projectile for everyone.

There is more balancing factors you can tweak with projectile than you can hitscan. You will never have a junkrat grenade launcher as a hitscan weapon. It simply is impossible to interact with.

How do you actually nerf hitscan?

Screenshakes and stagger during damage taken. Specially the ADS heroes.

Why would you? Hitscan main dpses 100% needs a buff rn across the board.

Revert all projectile and HP changes.

Hitscan is more oppressive because many travel-time projectile heroes lost their breakpoints, and thus their ability to compete with hitscan.

Alternatively,

Reduce all projectile sizes and buff travel-time projectile heroes to hit their breakpoints.
